So after an avalanche of documentaries on the theme of gypsies/travellers, what have we learned?   They are generally illiterate and choose to live in caravans which the women clean obsessively. G

I,v learnt that pseudo intellectuals will defend any way of life , however odious it is , as long as the word culture prefixes it .

I haven't got anything against them. People are people, some good some bad. I just find it irritating that their way of life is held up as some sort of romantic ideal. The kids should at least be made

In many ways I pity them.

To be so ignorant that you are unable to appreciate simple things in life, all I see when I watch them is greed and envy.

Always worrying about how much the next person has and spending large amounts to make themselves look wealthier to each other.

As highlighted with the weddings, they just don't realise that just by throwing large amounts of cash at something, you do not make it look beautiful, in fact at a point it turns in another direction and becomes more and more ugly.

The only chance they have of rising from there pit is to try and encourage there children to become educated.

I have to say as a plus point they do try and give there children a work ethic.

I agree with your point, but I don't see how that is in anyway unique to gypsies, just open your eyes and look at our own culture/society. Using dogs as an example, there are so many on here who grade their dogs ability against others. They all want to prove they have the best, or better and can't just be happy with what they have. Everyone wants to wear branded clothes, be part of a group of some kind and make more money for their egos and status.

The only thing I really have against gypsies is when they expect special treatment, that they can park up wherever they want and leave it however they want. The ones that live the way they want and it isn't at the expense of someone else, I support them and they can carry on. Gypsies that live in canal boats for example, I made friends with many of them and they were all very friendly and sound people. Whilst I also grew up around the worst of them, so I don't have any special love for their way of life either.

Ronnie Wood is from water gypsey stock, born not far from me.

He said he is the first of his family to be born on dry land, take a look at him and he looks as about as romany as you can get.
