I am not English, and I don't want to be. I'm deeply proud of my country and wouldn't have it any other way. I live here and love it and I'm proud to raise my kids here - but I am Canadian. My kids are English because this is where they were born, where they will grow up ... what else would they be? Some kind of hybrid .... with no nationality or loyalty to the country they were born in? Would you rather I raised them here to take this piss, tell them that everything this country pales in comparison to somewhere else so they grow up to view it as nothing? Doesn't that just perpetuate the issue of immigrants not feeling loyalty to the country they chose as their home? Isn't that what you lot complain about?? They should be proud of where they were born. In the end it's about nationality and loyalty to the country that makes you who you are, not where your parents come from.

 

People move to Canada from all over the world. Our mindset is different there - if you are born in Canada you're Canadian. For me the same applies to my kids. They were born here, this country will shape who they are, they learn the culture and history ... they are English. And if someone tried to tell them aren't just because I come from somewhere else, I'd take that as an insult.

 

My country is vast, diverse, multicultural, wild, beautiful, cultured, and truth be told: a bit wishy washy sometimes, but it sure isn't a bit of nothing. Recheck your history books

OK, what if you were pregnant and decided to go on holiday a few weeks before you were born, you decide to go to Spain and your baby comes early so you have it over there. A few weeks after your baby is born you and your partner come back to the UK.....is your baby Spanish?

Im working class and proud of it, i dont think there is a direct link between being working class and being common (at least not to me). To me being common is more about attitide, its a lack of tact, foul mouth, low morals and a definate lack of awareness of others and their feelings etc, but thats just my interpretation.

I think countries like Australia have the right idea about immigration, you are allowed over aslong as you have a trade that contributes to the countries infra-structure and you also contribute the the economy, they also have a LOT of space. The sad fact is our government have made your average Joe feel disheartened after allowed anyone with a pulse access to our housing, benefits and essential infrastructure such as the NHS. They then also are often found to be giving them preference over its own citizens Due to this limp wristed governing they are making people racist or angry, or both. The avergage Brit i feel is dissillusioned, feels betrayed and angry and has no faith in the people in power who are meant to protect both the country and its citizens. The fact is we are far too over populated on this tiny island and have far too many leeches. I have friends who are Indian, Polish, Canadian, they all have one thing in common, they are responsible, hard working and bring something to this country, yet their tarred with the same brush as the freeloaders. Yet who is to blame? People taking advantage of an easy mark or the crooks who have the power to stop it yet allow it to continue?
