a good few years ago there was a greyhound bitch that was said to have escaped from the local flapping track living wild in the local area, i saw it a few times over a number of years then it vanished. I did hear someone had caught it and taken it in but who knows. anyone else come across dogs living wild?

dont see many latch key dogs nowadays when i was a kid the streets had packs roaming about all day

that would have been a black greyhound if im not mistaken paulus? i know the man that caught the bitch seen it a few times myself over a period of about 3 months

I once took on a dog, probably Greyhound with maybe a dash of Whippet in its breeding. It had apparently been running loose fairly local to me for around 6 months before the dog warden managed to trap it on a camp site. It had taken to scavenging round the camp site. She actually laced a lump of meat with around 40 times the dose of ACPs normally needed to tranquillise a dog, and he still got up and ran off when they approached. When they trapped him he was like a wild animal, shitting himself and trying to bite everything in range. But within hours of getting him into a kennel he reverted to being a normal domesticated dog. He had a great temperament, was very fast, though not the greatest catch dog in the world. I think he survived more through scavenging than killing his own food.

this one wasnt scavaging it was truely living wild i saw it take a hare once,it wouldnt let you get anywhere near it. found the places where it was sleeping a few times usually in long grass at the side of ditches very much like hares. as i said it was a long time ago the land where it frequented is now a houseing estate and a perimeter road.

local to me their was a bitch ,she was like a rottie /shepard x that lived in the fields ,and she had a litter of pups and they were all living in the fields for months,we came across her once out bushing and she trying to attack us but when we looked closer we seen she had a litter of about 8 pups,but a lot of other dogs in the area seemed to hang around and help her out,everyone around knew about them and an old woman used to come up and leave food in the field them until they attack a foal in the field and the dog warden and the DSPCA came and rounded them up and took them away

my parents have a collie that was a feral pup i caught her when she was 4mths old, her siblings were all shot in the end. her dam was a local farm dog that reared her pups in the wild.

that collie is still a bit nuts and she is 4 now

there versatile animals,im pretty sure they could live in the wild for years if left alone.

used to have permission on a farm in mid wales and there was a collie greyhound living wild on the farm couldnt get anywhere near it when we were lamping it would follow behind us every feild .the farmer said it was like it from a tiny pup just would not socialise or take food from him .it really was like a wild dog and totally self sufficient.

going back 30 odd years ago there was a small group [3] of dogs that lived on a large piece of waste land that adjoined several wood yards .we didnt even know they excisted till we got into the terrier scene and i entered a dog into a large log pile and they bolted ,our lurchers didnt know what to do with them as our dogs were social animals .we frequented the area for a few years after that and they were still present so they either hunted the local prey[loads of rats and a few bunnies] or scavenged the waste from the lads that worked the woodyards.when i say they were feral they really where as the 1st sign of human life and they were gone as quick as any fox the area was transformed so we stopped going ratting etc so dont know what happened to them

I have a greyhound bitch which lived wild for 6 months as a pup, she is getting on now . She was in fife and they had to trap her in the end. She is still not the best around some people .
