chartpolski 27,772
We used to fly crate loads of gazelle, (I think they were Thompsons Gazelle), into the Middle East, from africa, for the princes and sheiks to "course" with their Salukis. We also used to fly the dogs and birds abroad, usualy Pakistan, for them to hunt wild gazelle and bustard. Wild gazelle are rare, and protected in most middle east countries, it's supposed to be only Beduin who are allowed to hunt, but the rich guys do whatever they want ! Cheers. riohog 5,920
ether you agree with the gazell being released or not , they are given more than fair law , , and how many of us in the u/k have dogs tht can run a couple of miles in 50 deg heat and make a catch ,? not to many me thinks ..... 1 Quote Link to post
Casso 1,261
Looking at that first clip, reminded me of how the greyhound went with man's intervention to make it an artificial hunt ,those dogs in the first clip are just tested for stamina, but not real hunting ability, the same as the greyhound today tested for just its huge burst of pace but now sidelined as a hunting dog, Would be interesting to see in generations what abilities apart from staying power are left in the breeding of those dogs, dogs that are just bred for one purpose end up as one trick ponies, is the ability to stay enough in a running dog of today, with no real test of that trait available legally on these shores, Quote Link to post
inan 841
Think this might have been posted before, but f**k these must have some stamina http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtX_WxWqtFw&feature=fvwp&NR=1 Highly impressive stamina ,and determination shown by the dogs, but, let's face it ,it's a bagged animal does it even know where its going? And a couple of times the cars appeared to head it off.Not for me. Quote Link to post

I personally dont like the idea od bagged quarry, to me the animal doesn't know the lay of the land and I would THINK is makes the animal more streesed and therfore more likely to make mistakes and an easier catch for the dogs. In response to your second question I have not owned a dog capable of running a couple of miles at that speed regardless of the heat Quote Link to post
