Its probably prey envy a lot of young dogs will do this. Pre ban you would have taken him out on his own for awhile till he grew out of it

Would agree with Skycat here, it is dependent on the dog, or, the dog it runs with. Capable youngsters can do this at first, so excited about a big catch, the retrieve (or the stop and kill) can go co

had one that would kill it but not release its grip till it was good and ready,didnt run away with it as such just walked with you till she had enough and dropped it just one of them things i guess,im with simoman it could be worse :laugh:

None of mine would let go until broken off :laugh: But its all historical now, not chased one for 6 years since the ban, just the wabbit......

I've known dogs which retrieved everything, and I mean everything which was small enough to carry or drag to their owner, perfectly until they were run with another dog present, and I don't mean doubled up. Just the presence of another dog on the field, even on a slip, stopped dogs retrieving, and it doesn't matter what breeds they were. A lot of high drive dogs are very possessive and need to be completely alone in their work, barring the owner of course.
