Caravan Monster 323
I never worked out exactlyhow an osteopath is differently qualified to the others... As I understand it, the chiropractor just deals with skeleton and nervous system, whereas a physio also deals with the muscles and takes a more overall view of the patient's health. I normally go to a physiotherapist. Sometimes the results are impressive: I once dislocated my knee whilst carrying a block of stone up a ladder. I went to the GP first, who prescribed a heavy dose of pain killers and anti inflamatories , which left me immobile for 3 weeks with hardly any sleep and properly mental dreams. The physio got me walking again with one 20 min treatment (mostly electric shock machine). As you get older, it takes a lot lot longer to recover from such injuries. I find that not moving around enough is most often the cause of problems - sitting at a desk all day, or doing one repetitive thing all day where you are stood awkward and off balance, like plastering. Keeping the weight off, stretching and learning how to treat minor stuff yourself with RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) all help. If you go to a private practitioner, they are running a business, so be prepared to end up paying for several sessions. It is possible to get similar treatment on the NHS, but you won't necessarily get the best practitioners and the normal NHS long wait for an appointment. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/50407-bad-back/page__hl__%2Bback+%2Bproblems__st__30

A nice Phillipino boy will turn up at your door, and you'll be helpless to resist Seriously though, you must be bad if you're on here asking for advice, you'll be on here at 2 am talking about your feelings next Hope your afternoon visitor brings you some relief, one way or another! I'd swap you right now, I've got an afternoon of cleaning grout off 8 sqm of limestone tiles to look forward to ..............

steve66 3,738
When it flares up gnash im usaully off my feet for about 3-4 weeks , like you say hobbling around the house like a 99 year old Most of the pain is in my hip and down my leg and foot I used to do alot of martial arts when i was younger and wonder if im paying the price for it now lol Steve has yours actually been diagnosed as Sciatica ?....yours sounds identical to mine and im only really going on what i was told years and years ago as regards it actually being Sciatica....but ive never had it like this which is why im starting to wonder if it is Ive also had a lot of rough tough sport over 30 odd years and the ol body has certainly taken some stick so as you say maybe you pay the price.....my pain is all around the base of my spine, around the hips and into the cheeks of my arse....but only occasionally down my legs, not as far as my feet though. Made a few calls this morning though i forgot its bank holiday so still not spoke to the right people....ive been advised to have an mri scan.....ive done all the hot/cold packs, rolled up towels etc etc its not making a blind bit of difference......no fun this is it Yep that sounds like sciatica , dont think theres no quick fix but i find trying to stay mobile helps as possible helps , its just getting mobile in the first place lol
the_stig 6,614
Any of you chaps have any experience with these people......and if so whats the difference ? Been laid out flat for 8 days after my back went.....ive suffered with Sciatica before usually a few days rest and some anti inflams sorts it out.....but starting to wonder if its not going to be so simple this time.... Gonna get on the phone tomorrow but not sure which to phone....and are they likely to come out cos i cant get to them. Im getting sick of posting on here i need to get my life back chiropractor-- i was laid up for 6 weeks he put it right in 20 mins bit sore after but did the job ..a mate went it it made his worse .. i think you may have to get to them the one i saw got on the couch with me knee in the back pulled and twisted and i felt it go back .. another time it went and i`d managed to get out to the shops i stopped half way back to have a breather picked up the 2 shopping bags and it just clicked back into place .. try n get moving gnash i`ve tried all sorts hot baths heat pads heat and freeze sprey --- i do exercises most mornings now book in with a physio they`ll sort you an exercise routne and sort you out with ways to avoid problems again even how to sit in your car seat .. good luck with it i know what a twat it can be .. Moll. 1,793
You really need your GP out, a chiropractor may make things 100 times worse if it is something severe. My sisters vertebrae are crumbling away sometimes protrude into the spinal cord . The pain is also the same as yours.
Lab 10,979
Get a big hammer and skelp your big toe as hard as you can............it wont help your back but it will take your mind of it for 5 minutes....
Ossie n Arch 1,683
Not a cure, more pain relief. Try a Tens machine. Iv'e got a few Rugby related injuries and we got a tens machine, and boy does it take the pain away. As i said it's not a cure but you can move around after using it. Iv'e even played Golf while wearing mine. Best of luck, Arch.
bisketti 6
I was diagnosed with sciatica & in all honesty the gp was not worth a light. I went to a osteopath,as recommended by several workmates. Due to the work we are in,it is pretty common. If not anything else, then paying for one session will be worth the money just to hear what he has to say. Mine tells me how many sessions it will take before i am on my feet,(in his opinion) & i have to say that he is always right. Usually takes around 4 sessions of which i get one a week. I am unable to wipe my arse, stand up,socks on etc etc on the times that this problem re-occurs. He told me the exercises which i should do,but that goes in one ear & out the other. So,my problem does come back. He truly is a miracle worker in my opinion.

Over the years i have have tried all apart from (chiropractor) on this post, and really none worked .Mine was+is bone, i had 3 slipped dics.
