valley boy 28
Every1 has there own opinion on what makes a "genuine dogman" IMHO the lads that are out 4/5 days/night a week and week in week out are in my eyes "true dogmen" as for the lads that nip out the odd night a week for a few runs and the type that joined THL in 2010 and alredy made 500/1000 post non of it helpfull/constructive and 99% of it a load of S*IT there the WANNA-BE "dogmen" , Hi mte not every body can get out 3 or 4 times a week I've had lurchers for 30 years most of the people on here have had about 30 lurchers in a year they are not prper dog men _ women and in the 30 years I've had dogs I've only ever had 10 and I've never been without a lurcher most people don't give dogs a chance if they dont catch a rabbit every time ther slipped they can't waight to get rid of them Quote Link to post
Stanleigh 135
It,s really difficult to define ,Personally I don,t think it,s about how good thier dogs are ,or even how much tackle they get , I v met a couple of ,what I consider to be good dog men , over the years and the thing they had in common , was a presence , an aura , call it what you want ,but they had an affinity with thier dogs , a bond , a partnership , and I don,t mean just a well trained dog , but something stronger , as I said it,s really difficult to define , but there is a differance between , a man who likes his dogs and a good dog man . scothunter 12,609
Men with a genuine love of their hounds and chosen Quarry. Men who know how to condition their charge to perfection. Men with Respect for their Hounds, Their Quarry and the Countryside. Men who know when to say enough is enough. After all they are flesh and Blood and not Machines. think that pretty much sums it up Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
For me it's not about how often they get out or how much they catch but the working bond and respect they have with/for their dogs, their quarry, the countryside and the hunt. 2 Quote Link to post
Guest paceandstamina
a good dog man would sell his settee to buy a dog, a good dog man knows the importance of good breeding, a good dog man knows how to get the best out of his dog, a good dog man is not kennel blind, a good dog man`s dog does the buisness, Edited January 21, 2011 by paceandstamina Quote Link to post

redcharge 379
Most important of all a genuine dog man must be Honest to himself and others Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Not sure about exactly what qualifies someone to be a 'genuine dogman', but most of the come lately's who have got into the sport because it was made illegal, keep point and kill dogs, drive the fields without respect - leaving gates open/damaging fences or gates/ruining crops, & boast about things they shouldn't be doing in places they shouldn't be doing it, are anything but 'genuine dogmen.' Chid 6,789
maxhardcores post nailed what a genuine dog man is only thing i would add to it is a genuine dogman as a connection with his dog that most never have ... the dog knows what the owner wants it to do before being told and the owner knows what the dogs gonna do before it is even happens ... artic 595
Genuine dog man?, They are out there, and so are some genuine dog woman too. If you show consistancy with facts and reality then I'd say you are a genuine dog owner. Good stock (preferable the same) no rubbish, no fakes, no lies and be honest in what you say and do. I think if you tick most of the boxes there, then you are decent enough to call yourself or others "Genuine" Too many of my dog is better than yours attitude, and I've been in books dvd's, so I'm better than you. Grow up. It's the people that you don't hear of too often are the most Geninue of all. 1 Quote Link to post
