jasper65 6
There must be a few old boy Racers on the forum who owned one of these or perhaps a Suped up Cortina or Escort? what a time to have a car compared to the tamperproof cars these days, you could tinker with the engines and modenise to your hearts content......... stubby 175
Ive had two capri's, my first was a rare 1300cc great car, until some un-insured mini-cab driver of ethnic origin wrote it off, by driver straight into my side and a 2ltr special edition, previously owned by my dad (ford worker at the time) as you say, great cars, and loads of engine space, leg room galore for lanky drivers like me saying that, Ive had around 3 mini's too sorry jasper, just clicked your link, that aint no f**king capri Edited July 12, 2010 by stubby

jasper65 6
I loved my old Capri! a proper Fanny magnet for its time, this was my old Capri 2.0S and even older MK3 Cortina 2.0GT parked when I was a single lad living at home........ C'mon stubby you can't expect them to make one look like the old Capri's designed in the 1970's! things have had to move on mate with the times, its 2010........... gnasher16 30,989
I always keep an eye out for Jaspers posts they are normally on subjects that bring a few memories flooding back. I had a 2.0s almost identical to the one pictured,a 3.0 ghia and a 2.8 injection....the amount of times the arse would slide out in the wet, funny days.Remember how you could almost stand in the engine bay,i opened up the bonnet of my motor last week i couldnt work out what the f**k was what, and you would need hands like a 4 year old to get to anything! My sons in the middle of doing a cosworth escort in a mark 2 shell.I had a few of the rs escorts back years ago, sold an old one that had been lurking in the garage for years to a friends son about ten years ago for 1000.....he sold it last year for 13 grand !!....Dont think the capris have quite hit the collectible stage yet. Mastiff 7
I used to have a 2.8i, as has been said I used to go looking for roundabouts when it rained, happy days. New one looks like a focus to me, probably a good car, wouldn't buy one.

I'm getting old now Gnash!! Hitting my 45th soon and becoming one of them grumpy old men .............. Capri's being tail happy was a understatement, they seemed to whip round at the drop of a hat but it never failed to impress. you're right about the amount of room under them Bonnets mate!! the old Pinto's looked lost in them. mind you we never cracked our knuckles working on them like the later motors with engines squeezed in....... I loved my 2.0S, it came with the lovely checked seats complete with Tennis racket head rests and the dash with the Oil presure gauge and rev counter, I played about with it a bit and stuck one of them 4 branch manifolds on and a Peco tail pipe, Finally went for a Piper Fast Road high lift cam which gave it a lovelly lumpy tick over and a bit more top end..... I remember have a pal in the car and a couple of birds heading out for a drink when a old MK1 XR2 had a go, to the credit of the Capri he couldn't pass me but then again I couldn't lose him either. I know we all reminisce at times but boy was the old fords some fun, you could interchange engines, gearbox's, diffs nearly the whole shooting match! I love getting my head under the bonnet fitting Points, setting mixture and strobing the timeing, I look under the bonnet of some of these modern cars and they're virtually all tamperproof......
