i agree whin but the world would be a boring place if we all had the same type of dogs, its down to personal preferance i beleive, some people arent to bothered about big numbers (just enjoy getting out with there types of dogs ) ,same with women mate, we cant all have the same size 6 lanky boney hairy women.lol, i cant stand the nice dog lovely dog comments either.just to get more posts on there profile.i like all different types of athletic built dogs not just the ones i kennel.

TOPPER - i don't really think we can talk "facts" here as the "real" alaunts don't exist today from the original lines - they are modern takes on what an alaunt once was - if you see the old drawings of alaunt they don't really look like todays dogs! not trying to start a ruck but but here isa few i found on google:

like i said previously i think the only dog that has been unchange since those times is the ALano espanol - i spent 3 years researching the Alano Espanol speaking to breeders all over the world and i think this is the only true alaunt left as it is has been unchaged for centuries.

lietome - your right mate it is a type, but there are still rustic breeds which resemble the orginal style alaunts better than the modern iterpretaion of them.

whether they look more athletic or not is purely down to is cross breeding I'm not knocking the modren version at all - in fact they are probably better / healthier etc ...and i have a modern alaunt! so i defo not knocking them!

luchermania - a good point, well made! haha they do look a bit funny!

whin - agreed mate these dogs are awesome and unfortunately mainly wasted in this country .....maybe we should all move to the outback australia or texas for some real hogging!

here is a clip of alano working a decetn size wild boar - you need to be a member of you tibe to view it though due to the graphic nature of the video:
