I went to B&Q yesterday and bought some 17mm dowel 8 ft long ( gutted when i went to the till ) i hate buying thing , i will be cutting them up to around about 800mm long and putting a slight point on one end, the top i was going to come down 70mm and drill a 6mm hole through it and i was going put some wire through and tie it top a rubber band ( from a camping shop that you use with the peg and a tent ) the pass it through the net and hook it over the end of the pole and slide it down to the wire to stop the net falling off i will post a photo soon so you no what i mean, sounds hard b

COCK OF THE NORTH ---- RAT CONTEST
john hubery replied to john hubery's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The idea was to run a local (in the north of england) competition, but seeing as there seems to be a decent response over the last couple of days, it may be worth while opening it up to all comers, we will have to set some rules sorted out first so we all know whats going on, I think I will take a look at Ditchys post a while back and see what we can use from that, and get it up and running ASAP -

For those of you that know me you will know of my love of ferreting, but I also have a passion for ratting with terriers and have had for some 30 years. In this time I have seen some big numbers and some big rats, any way, we were talking in the shop today and have come up with the idea of a largest rat contest for the lads in the north, with pictures being posted in the shop, on here and in the countrymans weekly. We will be looking at a trophy and jacket as well as a monatry prize for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. We will be posting some rules on here and in an article in the countrymans weekly in

May be if the margines where so tight that was the problem with them rapping, saying that our weld mesh prices have gone up by 65% in a couple of months

I am not going to come on here and blow my own trumpet, we do make kennels and runs for working dog, are in no danger of closing down in fact we are working seven days a week and overtime every night to meet demand, saying that we are only a small family company, the problems with the big companys is that they do as already mentioned need orders to come in with payment to move there"your money" around to keep the businees going, once they hid a bad patch , and I think the main problem has been the rise in steel prices along with the shit state the country is in at the moment, they find it easy

Glad you have recieved the box and nets mate its the first we have sent to souteren Ireland, hope you have many fun filled days with them, happy hunting, hows the pup settleing in

You lads that do have plummers that do the job realy need to get together and produce the goods and get away from the show mentality, there are some of you out there despite what others say, if you lioke the look of plummers it wont hurt to drop an outcross in there now and again, it can be bred back out to get the plummer markings back
