Welcome Dave, I've just returned from your area, been away in my caravan to a site near to brockenhurst. What a lovely place in this country, I was so impressed as it was my first trip there, we managed to time it right for a visit to the new forest show taking in all the local exhibitors and trades. Managed to spot plenty of deer, with my dogs on leads ! Not so many rabbits about though? The ponies were fantastic, everywhere even near the shops !! Phil

I always monitor their arrival, usually around the 7th April in my area( north west England) last couple of years they have been earlier, spotted my first coming down the m62 back from Huddersfield around saddle worth moor area, but it was only a very brief glimpse. On Saturday, the 6th I seen two flying overhead in the neston area whilst I was working, lifted my spirits, it's great to see the first signs of summer!

I've got one of their bush shirts, it's fantastic, warm, hard wearing and very comfortable. I wear a base layer underneath as it is a little itchy next to the skin but a great item of clothing, I wear it a lot, wouldn't hesitate to recomend them.

It's definitely not the same standard of show since countryman fairs took over the running of it, I say it each year that it just isn't as good but they are getting far too greedy with their charges. I noticed several stalls not present this year, cost of exhibiting I wonder? I always felt it was a more down to earth type of show for the actual field sports person with no tatt, but no longer, shame really, think ill give a miss in the future.you could always get a bargain or two but not any more. On Saturday I was concerned about the amount of gypsies about, they seemed to be there on mass,

Look excellent how do you order please ? -
Quarry tiles in mine with a waterproof sealant in joints, none of that piss smell in the concrete that you can't get rid of. Easy to clean, warm and hygienic, looks good too, keep a slight fall and you got it sorted. I hose mine down into covered drain and then squeegee the excess water away, perfect for cleanliness. Never had a problem of freezing in winter, don't find them slippy, very hard waring, look at any good floors in public toilet areas or the like and quarry tiles used a lot. It's worth the little extra investment at the beginning, dogs will benefit !!

I popped in there recently when I was staying nearby in my van, The shop is not as I thought it would be, smaller and located in a residential area really, I had a completely different picture in my mind. I found the staff extremely helpful even though I wasn't buying anything that day, only asking advice, there was at least six members of staff there all busy on phone at the time of my arrival I couldn't fault them and would not hesitate to purchase products from them in the future. They had a couple of dogs in the shop, a lovely staffie greeted me outside, very friendly. There

I would strongly argue that no difference in coat colour ability between black and yellow labs from working lines having trained both. Chocolates on the other hand are a different ball game! How many chocolates have gained FT awards?, very few in comparison, they are more popular from show backgrounds, hence their reputation. A good trainer can get the best out of most dogs but the job is easier if you are working with stock from a long line of workers, show dogs bred for looks only, they don't even teach them to heal properly !

Hi James, welcome. I'm in cheshire too, recognise we're you are in your picture, that's in another county, looks to me like your taking a stroll around the marina lake at west kirby on the Wirral ? What is your sport? Plenty of opportunities in our county, if you can travel about.

I needed some permission of my own so eventually got out and gave it a try, picked a suitable area and went for it! Drove into first yard spoke to the farmer on a machine, told who I was and what I was after, bingo got it with no hassle first time, couldn't believe my luck! Down the lane stopped another farmer in his pickup, but he thought about it said he already had a couple of lads, thanked him anyway and drove to another farm, knocked same conversation and walked away happy, two out of three, so easy but I had put it off for ages. I had always fancied getting permission on a big farm

I have a cocker/jack Russell first cross, she's a fab bitch for bushing, ratting, marking holes everything u want in a dog to accompany your lurcher, she's only small, all black with a white chest, the others in the litter where white with black patches. Each one in the litter has gone to work and all are doing well, just a lucky choice in parents as the prey drive in them is awesome! Mine resembles a terrier but has large ears, others are more spaniel like in appearance but work equally well. It was a trial matting that worked out plan on having another litter soon.

Spotted my first one last night (14 April) been looking hard for them for last few days, I get a buzz out of spotting the first ones to arrive! They are here in small numbers in different parts of the country but this recent cold spell must have delayed them. I always monitor their arrival and its usually early April although the last two years it was around the end of march, beating my 7th April record ! As soon as I see them arrive it puts me in a different mood, summertime now, end of hunting rest time for dogs, just keeping fitness levels up and training time for young ones, and dare I sa

I bought one, don't rate them at all, look impressive, loads of white smoke pours out, not moved a thing yet with mine, given up trying now! I think the chemical supplied isn't strong/nasty enough to budge anything ? Waste of money in my experience

Been out with my rat attack smoker this afternoon, same results as last time I used it at then end of the last shooting season- poor! Dogs marked holes, smoke put down waited for rats to bolt, waited and waited, nothing Totally disappointed once again, exactly same as last time The fluid just hasn't got the smell or power to move rats it's no good at all I did ring and complain should have pushed it further and got money back only advantage is its quiet and looks effective, simple to use but totally ineffective, complete waste of money and not recommended at all

Daz 7, Where did u get your quickfill and gauge from? Love my MFR but don't find it easy to refill the bottle like u can on other makes, Seen these quick fills on Internet wondered about having one fitted to my rifle It would then be the ultimate! Regards phil

First cross cocker Russell is what I use, small fast and intelligent ideal for bushing she gets into hedgerows and tight cover fearlessly ! Very biddable stops and turns on the whistle but enough drive to push game out for my lurcher to run, fabulous team work brilliant to watch them working as a team, I get a real buzz out of working them together.

I feed the champ ration to all my dogs have been feeding csj for a couple of years now,I am pleased with the results I get, for a reasonably priced ration I don't think you can beat it. I know several people who feed it, never heard anything negative, puppy ration excellent, really good value. You can pay silly money for 15kg bags of food, I have tried loads and have settled on this ration for now, good value/condion of dogs well worth trying a bag, available all over uk.

I've been looking at them altberg boots, they get really good reviews, all boots seem expensive lately, but if they last it's worth paying that bit extra, altberg pride themselves on fitting with several different options in each size, do you know which style u bought, they make many different versions, the two I'm interested in are the gamekeeper and the stalker versions, both being higher on the leg, availability seems awkward as most stockists are only for hill walking styles, looks like mail order for the ones I prefere. Anyone had any first hand experience of these boots ?

Dogs put two up yesterday whilst out beating in Cheshire/Wirral area, no big influx of numbers here yet- fabulos birds, fascinating, it gives me a buzz each time I get a flush, not interested in shooting them though ?

anyone had any trouble using j's fluid?
navman replied to stag runner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It's not cheap to use, I only use a small amount and swill down thoroughly, my issue with it is that you stink of it after cleaning pens out, i have to have a shower and wash clothes to remove the strong smell ! -
Spot on, well done litter look fab, which one you keeping back or you going to study them for a while ? Like your nail polish !! Once again well done you can put back into your pup what you learnt from Remus atb phil

I'v seen my cockers push through tight cover to eye wipe labs ! I have both for picking up, make a great team using labs for longer picks and cockers for sweeping areas at end of each drive, both work different to achieve the bagwhich is the important fact at end of day, cockers come in to their own on lost birds, lower to ground I think scenting ability exceeds labs !
-
I'v got a couple of cockers, one very small who has no problems retrieving pheasants, they tend to mouth them initially to get a good firm hold and balance and the deliver in to me, fun to watch as cock birds nearly as big as my bitch but no problems or hesitation, fabulous breed wouldn't have anything else, only slightly biased !

Fox red not that unusual I have a red and White bitch that I bred last year, keeping a fox red pup from litter
