  3. Good read lads.im kind of in the same boat as mark on a few things with a gwp at 16mnths old.she has a serious nose and is a class hunter to watch but she will point but only for meaby 20 or 30 seconds and flush what's there and run after it but I can stop her on the whistle and she will walk of in the opposite way with me.but she's not just a keen retriever for me.i had a warm duck for her today and she wuldnt lift it ontill I threw it for her and she thought it was just all play.
  4. Happy days jiggy that will tidy the hole ting up.ye your right about the hot water but it will only help it along it won't just fall of them,a 4 inch grinder might be quicker and no soaking lad just grind it of them
  5. It varies a small bit most nights, like this evening there came in 3 and then few mins later 18 and 10 of them dropped straight in and then there was 6 and 5 all dropped straight in.dont get me wrong I'm more than happy with them I was just wondering if there was any wee tricks in feeding them or something that would split them up a bit.
  6. Well guys don't know if there is anything I can do but I'm going to put it out there anyway.im feeding a pond this month very close to my house and I think it's doing Well, every night I have 30 to 35 mallard coming and leaving at 1st light.my problem is they are all coming in big flocks of 15 or 18 and it's only Small,I intend to cover it myself.is there such away or changing the way they come in that numbers would be smaller.might be studied question guys but it's all new to me.
  7. Well at least your asking and not just saying f##t this c##t he can stay in his box.keep doing what your at and get out to him as often as you can and he will come round.good luck
  8. Have you got here long lad?I got a gwp this year she was about 15 months old and she went the same and wasn't grubbing well for me either I tried all sorts with her but after about a month she changed and not a bother with her now,I think she was just getting used to her new surroundings and people.
  9. That's a pure disgrace them poor pups like that, they will never be dogs after getting a bad start in life like there getting, and the money the c##t is looking for them.
  10. Great topic I'm after reading it from start to finish and it's all very interesting.i started digging around cavan/monaghan with a lad had a wee black patterdale with white chest BEAUTY was her name she came from up meath country she was a real gamey handy wee thing a joy to work with we hunted her for 2 seasons but unfortunately she was killed with a car on his own yard before he got to breed her,but she was one that got me hooked and il never forget a wee bitch like that is hard replaced. Keep it up lads
  11. I wouldn't dream of it I really can't see why so many people are telling you to do so.wat is your reason and there's for getting him castrated in the 1st place??
  12. They are new to me but I think in general they are known to be a good enough retriever,it just seems funny.il have to shoot a rabbit for her and see what she makes of it.
  13. Well lads I got my gwp at the weekend, she's a real clinker I'm delighted with her have only got her of the lead this last too evenings wanted her too settle in and get used to me.so she's working well loves to hunt and has great obidence and recall but she just isn't fond of retrieving, she's like a dog that got to much of it (i think)and is just sick of it, I even put the dummies away and got a tennis ball out last night but still not that keen,I just let her run in for it I didn't sit her down first.any ideas what I could try with her????
  14. Thanks Barry it's al good advice.ye she is my 1st wirehaired but I grew up with gsp and esp my father kept them, and like you said they were the most loyal friendly dogs but when it came down to business they knew what they were there for.im looking forward to it al and have a good bitch at the end of it al.
  15. Well lads being awhile since I first started this post but since then I have got new kennels built and ready for my new gwp.it hasn't been the easiest job comeing across the right dog but at last I think I have her,I'm driving 4hrs to look at her Saturday.shes 15 or 16 months old has some obidence work done sitting healing retrieving of land and water, and only set a few times but didn't hold for very long she ran in and flushed the bird but that's basically it.she should be ok I think she's at a nice age to keep at her now and get her out in sept.anyting else I should look out for with her.th
  16. Lovely looking dog and sounds like he will be al there in the future.best of luck
  17. Good read rabbit hunter.surly someone knows the story about the viper dog and what really happened,it's only back in 81 I'm sure there are plenty of men know something about the hole.and as for running your dog put it like this to you if you hadn't of seen the printing on the tree I have no doubt you were going to see was there anyone home ha.atb
  18. Your grand just does be interesting to hear what way other men do go about it and every man has his own way and little tricks, but look being an expert or not once we're catching we're happy simple as that and something is working.
  19. Nice 1,all being well that's the plan next weekend to have all done and fed for few days and hit it hard next Sunday morning about 5.30am (weather permitting )
  20. Well lads got my hands on that bag of pigeon conditioner today it's not red band but he told me it's the very same stuff it's called GEM.he had another bag called sneakymix but he reckoned stick with the GEM.got it about lunch time and had it in the back of the van but when I got back into the van anything like the sweet smell is unreal I'm Wel impressed.hope it does as much for my bream when I get out.
  21. Nice one that was happy days Nice fish, that would draw you back for another session of it and it's a fish you might never beat.do yous do any or much prebaiting for a night at the carp?
  22. Your not far wrong muttley I'm a big believer of the sweetcorn to I think it works wonders I always have it on as a hook bait.i love this time of year myself and my Bro get geared up for the bream there great sport and u see there's only 1 carp lake near me but I never tried it it is distroyed wit guys fishing it flat out.
  23. Ye it's big alright,I have being fishing dis water all my life but this particular spot I'm talking about this will be our 3rd year on it and every time it just gets beter and beter, looking forward to getting back at it and trying out new baiting options to c how they go.
  24. I think I'd agree with you start small and see how it goes.its big water I'm on it runs for about 20 miles with 5 big lakes of it and the spot I've made my way into is roughly in the middle of the 20miles and it's the narrowest part of the water at about foot and very deep.great spot al fish have 2 pass true it going up or down.
  25. I'm not sure what will be available to me in my local store or what they can get in.how much of it would i add to my normal pre bait mix and would i cut back on my crumb when I add it.is it such a thing as the bream getting there fill and moving on? I'd normaly fire in a paint bucket full each night for 2 or 3 nights before I fish it works out at usually 50 to 55 balls.
