Pest Control ..does It Pay The Bills ?
Dirksdonuts replied to a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
And for that you need to be qualified really speaking. RSPH2 certificates and Public Liability Insurance is a must. Yes anyone can treat wasps etc but the contract work is a little different. -
You need to think what your trying to achieve using a larsen trap and how it works best. Its really meant for trying to attract the magpie or Carrion Crow to mob the new bird in the area. Once you have caught the pair in that area then move it. Sometimes it doesn't need moving far to the next territory. Once you have taken a pair of birds from one area the vacuum effect soon lets other birds extend their territory, so moving the cage back to the starting point after a while may well work. Keep the call bird new to an area rather than using it where its own territory is already. Hope this m

No but as time goes by it may well be essential to have the RSPH2 certificate as a minimum in order to buy your rodenticides for use -

Wow , really can't believe that , have payed for my course and start it in a months time , wish someone would give me a start like that . Just figured its something I should do , although I've made a good living off the moles , I am getting asked more and more to control other dear little pests . Yes the course alone is worth over a £1000 if you go for the week and live in. -

Flat pack Stainless Ultimate for me as they are so strong and look new after each use. I reckon the springs may weaken after time though which is natural. I wonder if they would consider putting new springs on them if a customer wanted?

Mole Catcher Required Islip Area North Oxford
Dirksdonuts replied to Deker's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Try http://www.guildofbritishmolecatchers.co.uk for that area........ -
Hi guys Its worth putting them near to the rabbits runs seen in the grass. Keep the carrots going and make sure that they are cut length ways into large slices. Don't worry too much about putting some outside as they will find it. We run about 30 at a time in some heavily infested areas and pick up 5-6 rabbits a day on a good day. I have never tried apple or parsnip but both sound interesting. I think apple sounds a really good idea.

Wasps Still About

To be really honest with you I think that I lost two this year by people wanting them treated for less than I normally charge. And I think your always going to get that. It would be an interesting experiment to charge a little more and see if it puts people off. An older pestie one told me - "don't be the fool rushing around charging low prices, take your time do less jobs but charge a little more" This is something that I have taken onboard and the turnover does seem to be the same but I don't get as stressed trying to do too many jobs in one day. -

But you missed the point Charge £40-£60 for a job and you loose a substantial amount in the costs above so why chase around making yourself so busy for very little money. You are almost better off charging a higher rate and losing a few jobs where you don't make much anyway. -

Fuel to get there Tax to pay out of the income National insurance Wear and tear on your vehicle Registering for trade waste to take away anything you may need to dispose of Your wages whatever chemical you use £40??? Okay take the above into account how much do you pocket????? Not a lot.............. -
Wasps Still About
Dirksdonuts replied to shropshire mole's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
They say that 1% survive each nest which is normally 1500 queens produced so every strong nest will make 15 nests in an area for next year. So taking one out makes -15 in there area for next wasp season. And i wouldn't touch a wasp nest at £40 I leave that to the window cleaners of the world. I value my company and we charge a flat rate but its certainly not as low as £40. -

The wasp nests are only now throwing queens out for next year. Did one today with about 1000 queens inside...... -

Small claims court and be sensible, don't mention bullying tactics as other farmers get to hear about it then your finished in that area. You will win every time whether or not you had a written agreement or not, he agreed to let you catch the moles for an agreed price. thats your agreement.
