  1. Just wanted to ask if any of you guys are from the u.s I am from the s.e part of Kentucky and don't really hear much about hunting terriers here just wondering if anyone used them
  2. I know that it seems like most would rather keep them as start bird dog just in my spot I am thinking i would be willing to trade some of the tracking that a pure blood hound would have for a dog that would be good as a all-round dog that will find a flock of Turkey and bust them up one weekend then the next blood track a big deer or elk or Bear then go out running fox or coyote or shed hunting when ever thing else is over I have found that it looks like they can track and run so that is part of what I was trying to find now the only part is with the fox and coyote would you train them like yo
  3. Sorry man I had forgotten I got sidetracked with another breed I thought might pan out but did not I was trying to understand with the people that use them on fur that if they point like they do on birds or track some what like a hound also if they have the speed to buy or catch I have heard both ways
  4. Yeah I have heard of them being used to track wounded game before but I think form what I have read finding wounded game and tracking game to the catch or pushing it to the gun is a different story I met two guys on different forums here in the u.s that used their dogs on fur one had a G.S.P that he worked with for bird hunting and the dog picked up running fur by himself he would run fox if he happed to come up on one and wood catch it or dive it to the ground where the boy could set a trap for it then the boy told me it just got out with his coon dog and straight going offer coon at night an
  5. I read that in Germany the short hair and wire haired pointers were bred to be both bird and game dogs I was wondering if anyone still uses them on game I know here in the u.s they have become pretty much bird dogs if anyone uses them on game I was wondering how they work when they are running game do they point like they do birds or track and run games kind of like hounds and I am really interested if anyone still uses them for fox which from what I have read was one of the game animals they were bred for form the beginning thanks for the help p
  6. Just wondering if anyone has used one called a German spaniel which was used for fur and birds both and hunted game as big as hog and bear alone
  7. I was reading how some of the German bread points have fox hunting in their history I was wondering if anyone still uses their dogs for fox still and if any still do how their way is if they run quite and catch or run them out for the gun
  8. Well the thing is a lot of times the den is under the water and the dog picks up from above one the bank thought the ground I was thinking maybe if I take some beaver glands like you can get from trapping surplers and put it in one of those balls like the cops do teaching a drug dog would give the dog a idea of what to look for
  9. The way I take it was the bull blood give it the strength to hold it owne
  10. Ok for all the dog trainers what to see how you would think is was done I was reading about the hunting ways of the Indians of the far north and one of the ways they hunted beaver was by using dogs to find their den's the way it was done was one or two dogs would run along the edge of the water being able to smell the the den though the ground and would sit when they find one moving their head to show were it was at and doing the this quite all time the question i have is how would you think you could teach one to do that the only thing I can think of is the way cop's teach a dog to do a drug
  11. That what I would think but the boy that was telling me about it said the dog still had the size to go to ground if the animal got to a den
  12. Thinks grey man that what I was I was going for a dog that had it in them to track any game on the trap line that pulled out a trap and be strong enough to catch in cover or in a den and pull it out in the open for a shot the boy that give me the idea said that his teacher used his to pull out fox Badger bobcat and coyote but he was from out in the Western parts where I am from we don't have Badger but we have fox raccoon which is about the size of a Badger and fightes as hard as on we also have bobcat and coyote pules we have a lot of brush and cover they could get into that a bigger dog coul
  13. So maybe this is just because of were I am from but how does a spaniel do on game I always saw them being used just as a bird dog but would like to know how they might do just out of curiosity
  14. Cool do you think the bull blood would make them want to catch when they find the game
  15. That what I was thinking that over here pitbull dogs are the main dog for hog catching and in the old west they were used to catch longhorn cattle this were half wild and at the most it was two dogs hold a bull that could go up to a 1000 pounds so I am thinking maybe if the dog had the drive and the well I have heard of a few of the bull terrier still be used for wild hogs I was thinking a x from one of those with a tracking terrier could be able to do the job I was told about
  16. I just wondering if I would be a individual dog or a bread that could be counted on
  17. I could see how something like that could be different than in the field but I am trying to find out if anyone of you all have ever seen anything like the x the guy told me about that could be counted on to draw game as big as a bobcat or coyote on it owne
  18. But still from what I have read it would be a hard thing for a dog to draw a Badger
  19. Just wondering what kind of game would you all use a x like that for the first one that comes to me for us over here would be on the trap line tracking game that drug off a trap looks like he would do better getting over the hills and those that brush pules I would think that with the bull blood it could hold it owne with some of the hard game we have I just wonder if you all did not have the laws you do how would you think a dog like that would do on fox or Badger would you say It would be to push fox and Badger to the gun or would you think it could catch
  20. Hi Frome the U.S just wanted to ask if you all did not have the laws you do would any of you use a bull terrier x with a tracking dog for bushing dog on hard game heard of a guy over here that Used one x with a terrier that could track to pull fox Badger bobcat and coyote from cover and den's I know that most of you guys don't have bobcat and coyote but I thought I would see if any of you guys would use a dog like that for fox and Badger if you could
  21. So thought I would put this out another time I found a bull terrier used in the u.s but on the trap line instead of hunting I talked to a guy I met on another forum that was saying the old man that learned him to trap used a dog that was a x between bull terrier did not say if it was English and what he called a German terrier to track game that pulled off the traps and if the animal got to it den or into heavy cover were it could not be seen the dog would go in and pull it out the guy I was talking to said his teachers dog had pulled out fox Badger bobcat and coyote he never saw the dog work
  22. Well that would be what I would think I sent a message to the guy that was telling me about the dog for some more information but I was thinking that a lot of you guys would have had more experience with terriers would maybe have some ideas if it could be done the only thing I would say is I have seen a few hunting shows were bull terrier was used as a catch dog for wild hogs they would hit around the ear or tail were the hog could not get to them so maybe it possible
  23. Just that it was short and was about 20 pounds and had the scars of a fighting game dog I was just wondering that with the other terrier blood for the tracking and bull blood for the catching could it be possible to draw the game that has the size of bobcat and coyote and hold them until the hunter get there
  24. The guy I was talking to just said a bull terrier is there a big difference between the two if it was done with Badger was it done all the time hunting or was it a training thing for a young dog
  25. Hi was wondering if any of you guys with more experience with terriers could tell me if this sounds right there was a guy saying that the old man that learned him to run a trap line used a dog that was a x between a bull terrier and something he called a German terrier that would track coyote bobcat fox and Badger that pulled the traps off and if they made it to a den the dog would go in and pull the animal out of the den I was wondering if anyone of you had ever heard or seen terrier used to pull the game out I always thought they bay them under ground and the hunter dig the game out but terr
