  1. This is cool I was wondering about them as bushing dog was wondering how they do for fox compared to hounds
  2. Cool to hear about foxes that one of the big ones here for the fur hunters
  3. Don't know that breed how are they in the bush
  4. nice looking dog what is she x with
  5. Ok something that I have noticed as I was looking around was there is the G.W.P and something called the D.D which from what I have been able to find same say is the more the old school dog and the G.W.P being the Americanized version so were you guys talking about the D.D or the G.W.P also if anyone knows of any training videos or books in English for them as varmin dog which I grew up with treeing hounds so if they are trained like a hound for fur I can probably do ok
  6. I understand what you guys are saying the guy I was talking to did it for a living so they were out 5 or 6 days a week but with me it a weekend thing so go out Friday evening and come back Sunday night so with the G.W.P do they need any kind of special training for ground tracking I was just wondering because the only time I have seen them was on TV as a bird dog
  7. How do they do on ground tracking
  8. Ok I don't know all that much about them what made me think about it was a guy I know another forum swear that his bust trap dog was one but if any of you guys know of one that might make a better choice most looking for one to find traps on drags find beaver muskrat and mink den's and blood tracking big game
  9. Well I am thinking about getting a blue healer for working the trap line and I was wondering if anyone knows about them how they do as a tracker
  10. did you do any kind of training with it
  11. Well I don't know about out west were live stock is a big thing but in a lot of the south were I am they are pretty much coon and squirrel dogs
  12. So I was wondering with you guys that use these dogs I was just wondering do you have to do any work with for tracking or do you just let them out were you know game is and they figure out
  13. So I have seen a few things about guys working terriers on mink and I was wondering anyone who does it do you traine them to track a mink on a drag like you would with a hound
  14. Oh yeah differently different guy and I met when we use ropes to catch live stock
  15. Oh ok my bad sorry I am still learning as I go so I was wondering would you say the same thing with a steal jaw trap or is it just the snare also how can it be inhumane it about the same as when we use rop to catch cow and houses with
  16. Well it would be perfectly ok with our laws and I don't know why you would say stupid for and the name is a sign of pride because we are survives also guys like me and my ancestors were the ones that help run the red coats out of the country and probably saved a lot of the U K from the Germans in the 40 lol so if there is a reason would be a bad idea would be more than happy for you to point it out because I would be the first one to say I could be wrong but there is no need for name calling and put downs because we can all be wrong or have a bad idea from time to time
  17. Hey you all wanted to see what you all would think about a trap plan I have seen in a few places it a hole in the ground with bait in the bottom and 4 sticks put in the rim with a snare lop layed over the sticks with the idea being when something like a fox puts it paw in after the bait the snare would close as it pulled out of the hole what would you all say would it sounds like it would work
  18. Cool I have been trying to find out all I can the only thing I have left to figure out is if they can work fur tracks on dry ground in heavy cover I have had a few hounds guy say that in a spot like that but I was thinking the D.D are different from hounds
  19. Just wondering what is the land like in your area over here it is Hill's with a lot of brush and trees
  20. Thanks sounds like a good dog if you had the chance would you get another one
  21. I was wondering I know some of you guys were talking about fox hunting with them and that is something I have been trying to learn about and get into plus I was wondering how they would do on the trap line tracking bobcat that had pulled a trap off or with coyote which I know a lot of you guys have not dealt with the best way I can explain it is think of a small wolf about 55-65 pounds but that acts like a fox there are a few guys just north of us that hunt them with pure blood beagles the way one of them talked they have been doing for a few years and have never had a dog hurt bad let alone k
  22. Was wondering which one would you guys like for fox and hard game I think a x with terriers would be more willing to go in or something that would fight but I don't really care about catching more something to push game out of the brush to the gun but with the game we hunt might need a few dogs that could hold their own if game turned to fight
  23. Just wondering if you guys with these dogs are still going good plus wondering how you all would think they would do on hard game
  24. Well I was wondering because I have seen a few guys that use spaniel x with beagles we do more fur hunting than bird's plus over here I have heard of people near our area using pure blood beagles for fox and coyote hunting but I was thinking the problem with the pure blood beagles like any hound is they will work a track until they find it puls I was thinking a flushing dog works closer to a Hunter just wondering gaz_1989 when your dog is working a rabbit or a fox does it open up before it flushes does it run it before you can get a shot or does it work closely enough that you can get a shot s
