  1. Well if you mine a pure pit bull could find one so you think a half breed could do
  2. Ture I was thinking about them two but just wondering how a lurcher would be next to one of them
  3. Well I think I have heard of a few guys kind of close to me using bull x as a catch dog on hogs if a bull x does not losses speed bad see what you guys think hunting steap hills with heavy cover with opens anywhere from 50-100 yards so in Land like that would you think a bull x would be able to catch a fox called into the open or bring in with bait
  4. OK would you go with a frist or secant x
  5. OK for you guys that like the beagle x how many do you use
  6. Well I have heard of a bull x and a few guys out in the more open parts of the West use them as a kill dog but the book I was reading called for a collie x since a lot of you guys have experience with them if you did not have the ban to deal with what kind would you go for that had the speed to catch fox in a short run because most of the time over here it would be let them loss on fox and maybe coyote that was called into the open or bring in over bait
  7. By itself are they hard to keep up with before going to ground
  8. Cool do you use them to push it to the gun or to a sight hound
  9. Cool I have always thought it would be cool to hunt with lurchers but most of the open country around here is Land that has been cleared for mining or paster land so 50-100 yards and anmals can be under cover would be interested what kind of x you all would recommend for fox if you did not have the ban to deal with
  10. OK I I am thinking about getting my frist gundog and was wondering what you all would recommend this is what it would be for Turkey hunting the dogs job would be to rang out find the flock and bust it up by running in barking to mark the area and to make the turkey easier to call Beaver and muskrat hunting the dog runs along the waters edge to find the den's or path they use getting out of the water and retrieving them after the shot Blood tracking big game And shed hunting
  11. OK would you think a greyhound collie x could have the speed to get to a fox across a open field say 50-100 yards
  12. So just out of curiosity what would you all say was your favorite bushing dog for fox
  13. Nop just that it was not a common dog here but that it would be a good one for a lot of the work over here
  14. OK I was reading a book on running dogs in the u.s the man that write it was talking about a greyhound stockdog x and talked about how it would be a good catch dog in the East so in the eastern parts of America you are talking about heaver cover more hills I was wondering if anyone knows of any reason a lurcher would do better in land like this
  15. Well I would be surprised if the old man knew what a lurcher was and the cur is a kind of dog that was fist breed in our area it was seen as a all-round fur hunting dog that would be just about as fast as a lurcher but could also track and since most of our areas is heavier cover a good tracking dog can be a good one
  16. The guy used a kind of dog we call a cur and he mostly goes after foxs
  17. I met a guy that had a interesting way of hunting game in the bush he used a e-caller to bring in game and installed of shooting it right off with let his dog go after it he said the reason was that his dog was fast enough to catch and kill it or bay it until the man could get so close that he could not miss he said that the reason he did it that way was the animal was put down or got away clean was wondering does anyone see a problem working that way I am thinking maybe our next dog we get might be useful for that kind of work
  18. That might be what I was thinking about i was wondering if a guy could use the same ideas to train one to find beaver muskrat and mink den's
  19. I thought the way I read it was the dog would go out to find one then lead the hunter to it
  20. So I was wondering if anyone knows about the training they do were the dog goes out find the moose and go back to the hunter and led the hunter to it
  21. Yeah that general out west in the open country i was wondering if anyone has used it in close country just as a early warning system
  22. Well if I remember right I think the guy was talking about fox
  23. I saw is on here one night of a guy that used his dog on game dives or when he was calling game to let him know when game was coming and which way it was coming also to track it after the shot I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or done it
  24. I know that I was looking at the German bread ones for the fact they will hunt birds and fur both over here in the states I have heard of a few guys using them for hogs and coyotes from the little bit I have read is they don't point on furs but will push them out to the gun but I would love to know if that is right if anyone used them on fur and if there is any difference between the G.W.P and the G.S.P
