  1. i use bisley magnums in .177 Cheers
  2. Nice shooting ... well done. Looks like you both had a good evening out
  3. Ok knocked a few quick pellet holders up. The grey leather would probably be better for .22 as its slightly thicker but i have no .22 pellets in the house at mo. The sand leather is ok for .177 but could maybe do with being just a bit thicker as after my in house quality control ...... which i call the waggle test * i lost a pellet on the worktop ! Time will tell on the hole punch sizes due to use / wear but i will try them over the weekend and see how i get on....... from this to this and then i will get the missus to see if they can do a camo leath
  4. Nice one , well done
  5. Lets hope they catch them. Gives decent shooters a bad name
  6. I will try and get hold of a small square of leather from a tannery near me. Think the father in law has a leather punch etc as he used to be a sample cutter. Its a long weekend so might actually get it done Cheers
  7. Hi and cheers for the replies. We tried netting last year and this year but they are persistent buggers. Ruined the veg last year but luckily not so far this year. Usually theres about 6-8 of them but sometimes more. Always hanging about. Its funny to watch my old dad run down the garden at them Even if we get 1 or 2 of them hopefully that will put them off. As to where the pellet went i can say it went to safe ground. The garden is pretty big ( that why i zero the scopes down there ) and its scrubland at the end. Next time i will wait for them to be on the ground Cheers
  8. Hi all. I wouldnt say its so much a hunting thread but its close ! I went down my dads house to zero in the ultra i bought for my daughter as she was hoping to use it this weekend and at about 25yds i was getting a 2p cover on 5 shots which i thought was bloody good for me. So i put another target in and concentrate a bit harder and put down ten shots. I walk down to the target and see only six and a bit holes. I thought hey thats strange and then it dawned on me that i was putting pellet on pellet ! OMG this ultra is very accurate. Then i hear it. The woody in the tree on my right. So i sl
  9. 70 yds ... ..... i cant even run that let alone know how far it is ! it goes back as we grow up ........ mine is bigger than yours ! my dad is bigger than your dad ! if its too good to be true etc , the proof is in the pudding ! cheers
  10. my 97k is so sweet to shoot im very happy with it .... and im sure its not modded. saying that i did buy a bsa ultra ..... single shot !!! for my daughter who complains the hw is heavy ! but then there really is nothing to her so maybe thats why she likes it. we are slowly getting better at the targets and might well try a HFT at our local club who take on beginners at the end of the day its all good fun and thats what we like btw my 97k is in .20 cal and seems to be very good at targets and hunting cheers
  11. So what calibre to choose ... hmmm ? A dead rat is a good rat As long as we hit and kill the bu##ers its all good
  12. Grab some " Police" tape ..... did i really say that out loud ? Only joking but its a shame. We have squirrels that seem to know where the road is too !
  13. Indeed wise words ... i remember i had an air pistol many years ago that i pointed at the news reader on bbc ...... and then pointed at a spot on the ceiling and pulled the trigger ! .... kapwhuuuttt ! God my mum went ballistic !!! Guns were banished to the garage ! Think i may of been grounded also ! Empty it before you bring it indoors
  14. Good call. Lucky i shoot on private land away from sight. If im seen then the " eyes " are trespassing and should not be there ! But who knows in the future a quick call to 101 might save a load of hassle
  15. Hi again and thanks for the replies. All being well with the weather and hopefully not working i can try and get some time up at the lads place. We are trying to source a bench / table from the workshop so hopefully try to extend our range and set up a few more targets for practice and zeroing etc. Cheers
  16. What a great post .... it did make me laugh " Any luck ? " ..... quality Lets just hope they do actually get out more !
  17. Went shooting today. Nothing too serious. Not hunting just a few targets , tin cans etc ( took wife and daughter so had to behave ! ). Surprised myself to be honest. We only got up to about a 20 metre distance but the gun was very accurate and i hit every time. The missus had a go too ... first time she had held a gun let alone shoot and she hit the knockdown duck first time. Of course i got the " look " haha Anyway had a great afternoon plinking / learning and also did a reccy with the lad on his land and saw plenty of pigeons so hopefully get up there sometime this week. Cheers
  18. Nice work there. All the effort looks to be paying off. A lot of effort too
  19. Hi all. Sorry to keep multi posting ! But i am now the proud owner of a Weirauch HW97k in .20 cal bought from Willards in Milton Keynes. Nice relaxed atmosphere and the chaps in there were polite and friendly and seemed to know their stuff. I even got to shoot it on their small but handy range. It seems to "hold" better than the Air Arms , doesnt seem as heavy which is good for me. Two tins of free ammo and a bag ... all good for me First impressions are im well happy and hopefully im off shooting Easter monday Not a great quality photo htt and im sure it was mor
  20. Hi again ! Cheers simon for your replies. Full of good information and honest to boot Further searching by myself as " er indoors " says cheaper is better ... if i get into shooting in a big way i can go pcp and even FAC maybe eventually i have managed to find another rifle to go and look at. The choices for secondhand are HW77k in .22 with a 3-9 x 50 scope and bag at £280 or the HW97 in .20 with 3-9 x 50 mil dot scope at £370 obviously you cant really tell the quality until you see them. Which one to view first ? its a fair drive so think i will let the missus drive ....
  21. What scope would be the minimum i should be looking for ? I might still wait and see about the offer from mattyb but if i can raise the funds "er indoors " reckons the tx would be ok. Im in no real rush at moment. Also ive been reading some horror stories about dealers ! Im guessing you have to go in yourself to see if they are true though. Anyone know of decent dealers / shops in Northants / Bucks / Cambs ? thats is of course if any of you live this way edit : also just found a HW97 but its a .20 calibre ? worth looking at ? Cheers
  22. Thanks for the replies. The dealer seemed quite knowledgeable considering its more of a shotgun / rifle setup. Im not sure what the scope was that would be included but i could always ring and check. My call ( that i was waiting for ) turned out to be a no go.Was a shame really. Nice gun good price .... no wonder it didnt last a day on guntrader and i thought i was quick to get in contact ! Two other gunshops to contact tomorrow so fingers crossed Cheers
  23. Great i managed to put my back out so no long drives this weekend. Managed to get to a local gun club that have a shop and looked at a air arms tx 200 hc. was a nice gun. seemed quite solid but heavy. Maybe i was expecting it to be lighter but i guess i might get used to it. seemed a decent price. Could do me one with scopes for £450. The dealer said had i thought about a gas ram model. Are gas rams worth looking at ? or are they a bit pricier ? Got another couple of options ( waiting for a call ) and one to look at next week. Cheers
  24. Hi. Thanks for the replies again Cheers for the offer mattyb ... nice one .i will let you know what happens this weekend. I reckon ive talked myself into getting a springer. i reckon there must be less to go wrong than with a pcp and after maybe a little tune they look to be very smooth. Funny how it seems i have do a little research and find 2 gun clubs near ish to me that i never knew were there ! One with a shop that has a tx 200 so i can go look at that hopefully. Also found out i can go and do some clays locally for a small cost ( friend of a friend ) It really is strange how
  25. Ok off to look at a secondhand HW77 this weekend. anything i should look out for ? Its from a dealer but he couldnt give me a date of manufacture. Is that normal ? Cheers
