    Alot of good trout there,the dogs nearly as busy as he would be in the winter, with all them fish,some dog never seen that before.

    Nearly ever 4 or 5 years one of the ferrets will get abscess,I bring ferret to the vet cost 60 euro,what do other lads do?any home remedies? always thought home job would be messy,And for the lads with no heart a good ferret is worth minding,if he was no good he be sold on as pet middle of second season.

    Left over raw food in cage for days is the biggest killer.

    Have ferrets all my life only breed when stock is getting old, had jill for 10 or 11 years and never breed from her and she never died,clean cage watch what u feed them summertime cooked food or dry cat nuts fishy type leave them with some shine,left over raw food left in the cage for days,only problem i ever had were abscess.

    Thanks lads for the information i will get one 50 and two 25 with pins 4z, Tiercel see u have alot of posts with very good knowlege from someone who does alot of longnetting.

    reading through the forum i thought 6z would be the best suit me,would 4z be to much trouble for a beginner?plus id say the 6Z would last alot longer and catch just as good,im thinking rabbits would wreck the 4z at night.do the fuckers eat the nets often when their not in the net long,how many years would u get out of a longnet before i have to cut it for stop nets with the holes in it.

    getting into traditional longnetting at night,just before i buy the longnets what lenght net would suit a beginner?use 11 yard nets ferretting so have general idea,would two 50 yard nets be easyer to use than 100 yard?is there much difference weight on the wrist between one 50 and 100?

    f****d up his thread alright,should have phoned each other,how did ye start talking about shooting hares,bring dog out on lead get him stock broken jumping retrieving rabbit skin recall time enough 13 or 14 months or net rabbit give him run in big field before it gets too dry the ground,try lamping rabbit skin keep him ticking over,be ready for winter best of luck with him,a lot of lurchermen in Wexford,thing with starting too early is dog not mature enough body or mind can't catch and barks,barking dog no good for lamping,good luck.

    Just thinking if dog ever gets really hurt,I don't know I'm not for keeping ex worker as pet,life to short,pet is pet for kids,worker is worker,so not sure insurance is good idea,kids dog has pet insurance,do the right thing and start again I suppose.

    Is it really a wise move to get insurance for working dog,if he gets badly hurted he might never run right,just wondering if he c'ant work what good is he to dog man,what would people do?

    Sometimes go alone would go into graveyard at 3 in the morning for rabbit,funny when you have dog and lamp miles for houses u just think next rabbit,meet 2 hunting lads one night driving around and they said ur not going down there on ur own,hunters go through it,but d'ont look at ghost hunters anymore only get in the way when i am lamping on my own.but if hair ever stands on dog and he growls in the middle of no where looking in the hedge I'm gone ha ha never happen.

    Bolted afew with ferrets down the years, imagine putting ur hand in a borrow some bite,but a pine martin is another story if he grabs a dog right its nasty and there fast seen greyhound come out worst with one.

    If I lived there I'd take whippet with bit of collie make great dog if breeding is good no need for nets with him.

    Feed some dry and they get plenty of rabbits plus scraps, only feed rabbit for 7 months, bollox have to freeze them for 3 weeks for the dogs,have my own freezer for rabbits,but wife still hates it,there still their ha ha,and the freezer will stay in spare room, working dogs and ferrets need meat to keep strong.
