I have seen a good few variations over the years but I am positive that the numbers are on the increase, that or I am taking more notice. An old lad at the farm I worked at in England told me that pre mixi they used to keep 'em when they were ferreting and try and breed them on.I Suppose like all domesticated pets they start out as summat a bit different in the wild.

I have been breeding off proven working stock not pedigree or stuff people have been talking up. My pal has bought in a cracking looking Beddy to breed in later on when we see how he turns out. It's no good breeding shoite there is enough of it out there. Having said that if one of these crosses doesn't make the grade their is always the pet homes for them because they tend to appeal to folk, I blame Bill Maynard in Heartbeat!

One The Beach With The Pup And My Lad....
Stigodadump replied to B.P.R's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Grand job! You can't beat the beach for giving 'em a good blast on level going. Great pictures I wish mine were half as clear! -
Aye he has thrown some crackers. He needs a dam good brushing at the moment but since a recent kennel fight he isn't keen on me doing it. I will have to muzzle him to get him tidied up He nailed two last night so he isn't coming out tonight, going well for a pensioner!

Aye the big catches are all away now and it's harder to get any decent size fish at all. I bet them blokes in the vid had arms like jelly after that lot!

Grand bit of sport mate, that ground looks like a lot of the stuff I do. Going for a bit of shine later and try and get a chicken chomping varmint for a neighbour

so where does your dog take it by to kill it quick. what technique does a beddy/whippet use to "dispatch rapidly" Most of my dogs go for the neck and roll with 'em then shake them. One bitch isn't fussy where she grabs them and tends take a bit of punishment for her troubles but she will have the pipe work on display within 30 seconds of a strike. It might not be fast enough for some folk but personally I aint too fussed what other people think. I have seen two adult foxes dragging a ewe with a prolapse down and literally eating her alive so I don't tend to be full of compassion whe

Now I always thought that fishing was a rather genteel past time that was ideally suited to those of a patient nature.......................WRONG!!! Take a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6LmR29myK4

I used to think that but a life time of kneeling in hedge sides setting nets and thousands of nights tramping over rough ground in all weathers tend to give you a different outlook

Great result! That one in the bag is probably the best of the season. It's always nice to see an injured dog nail his first one again. Good luck mate

You have some nice dogs there mate, I am biased but I still reckon these are the best all rounders to be had.

I have been using it for years with no problems. Just use it like stitches and don't completely close deep wounds, leave an opening for them to drain any pus n muck out. I use some antibacterial powder like (cicatrin if you can still get it) and swab the edges with alcohol wipes before doting them with glue, i then spray the outside of the wound with alamycin spray daily until it looks to be granulating up nicely. The first super glue was invented for use in the field for squadies who needed patching up so I can't see a problem with it if used sparingly. Here's the wikipedia info for w

Good haul that mate.

I think the most one dog has done for me is 5 in a night, it is not a numbers game for me anyway. I just do the job in hand. We cover a big area and a lot of it is rough mountain ground that takes a while to get round in a night so the dogs get a decent brake between runs. I run them in daylight as well either slipping the lurchers when the hounds put 'em out or with my terriers working the cover. Like I say it's not a numbers game but on average the dogs do around 100 between them per year. We also shoot up around 100. There are plenty of times when I get none as well either due to t

When you look at it the fox isn't that fast, he can't turn amazingly well like a hare ( unless it's one of them super supple cubs that are flying round at the moment!) and he certainly isn't big and heavy. All the dog needs is the speed to get up there quick before he hits cover and the technique of dispatching them rapidly. I have no qualms at all about using the lighter types like mine, they are hard as iron and strike whole heartedly with no fear. After all a decent border x lakeland terrier can snuff a charlie in a hole on his tod so any half decent lurcher should be more than a match

Mine are no more than 19" and slam 'em hard and will do it repeatedly. It does tend to make em a bit like a crocodile on the bunnies though
