  1. i found darcys books quite good. these days id prefer to watch a dvd of ratting and rabbiting than read about someones day out.but putting things like digging, deer and fox hunting onto dvd maybe isnt such a good idea. one things for certain if a picture paints a thousand words video footage says it all.i can remember when i first got interested in hunting and i read all the books to try and learn something.books were helpful but watching videos like the "ratcatchers" and "coney catcher" showed exactly how to go on.
  2. butchers cannot landfill their waste so it has to be got rid off within the new waste laws.( a set of regs which also makes it an offense for a business to put lightbulbs and tubes into their waste skips.daft things like that when you can put alsorts into " household rubbish".just another government money making racket.) it costs butchers alot of money to dispose of what could be very good dog/cat/ferret food.
  3. personally im looking forward to the show as ANY plummer terrier can be entered. if the judge dosent like plummers thats maybe a good thing.that way he cant be biased towards either club etc,and wont look down upon those like me who have never felt the need to register dogs with any club as they all want kc. whos going off here? is there a beer tent?
  4. no you dont need a trap :11: getting a terrier to catch and kill a rat must be the easiest thing you can do with working dogs. scouse have you watched any of the dvds out there? if not get a few cheapies from e-bay for an idea of what its like.
  5. good pics millet. the only problem ive found is that cows and the farm guard dogs dont seem to accept the bigger dogs running around like they do the terriers.i can only think they see them as more of a threat.
  6. yes mate i use mine, though the rats are very scarce this year on my permission. in the past ive seen nothing on the fields so will lamp the rats with the lurcher in the farm buildings before going home. if i ever make another dvd ill get some footage of the pointer crosses ratting for sure.
  7. no problem........like has been said they kill more than they bolt which can be anoying. it dosent hurt to put in the motor even if you dont use it very often
  8. i agree with what you say but sometimes you cant dig.if ive got rats in stone building walls,or in dodgy places i aint sending in a ferret so i get the smoker out. id much rather dig them out as even rats that do bolt from a smoker are usually much slower(who can blame them........) but the smoker gives me an option in certain places.farmers dont care if the dog gets them or they get gassed so at the very least its pest control.
  9. smokers kill a lot of rats underground but ive still bolted hundreds of rats with smokers.i prefer strimmers to chainsaws. just weld an inch pipe onto the exhaust box and cut the plastic housing so it fits back together.use radiator hose for the flexi pipe as it can take the heat. if you want pics putting up let me know.
  10. no mate,they are a mongrel mix of plummer/fell.
  11. smart looking dog mate,i like reds terriers myself.
  12. the dvd had them catching a few but like you say its based around shooting.still, they run flat out over the hard terrain.........although they must be tough, alot of them must end up crippled. and theres no-way would most of us stick a ferret into those places.they use muzzles aswell........ive only seen about 6 dvds of hunting in spannish islands and all the hunters seemed to use the same methods.they used small barrel shaped ferret carriers and muzzles. none used locators, but in any case youd need dynamite to dig in lanzarote. ibiza holiday prices seem to be going up as the isla
  13. i love ibiza, ive travelled to other canaria and balearic islands, turkey and hawaii and nothing comes close to ibiza. people think its all about nightclubs but once out of the big towns its spot on.i go every year and had tried to get a contact to go hunting over there last year but couldnt find anything. last time out there i got a spanish hunting magazine which had a dvd of rabbiting in lanzarote with dogs.its some sight to see running dogs flying across volcanic rock without a field of grass or hedgerows in sight. they may open up but there feet must be amazing.
  14. ive used barrels for about a year and the terriers sometimes piss in them. if anyone in the durham area ever wants a couple of barrels let me know.should be able to sort you out with good clean ones for free.
  15. sorry its not a better pic of the dam.she is mainly parkes blood. the dog has seen a bit,we breed our rats big up north.
  16. sadly this pup isnt mine as i already have a ridiculous amount of dogs but the dams owner is keeping him so ill get to see him plenty
  17. i honestly dont know,as ive said i wasnt able to get enough work for them to show either way. i know a couple of lads that claimed to use theirs regularly out with hunts but only have their word for it i never saw it myself.but that was at least ten years ago. foxdropper i dont think anyone is using their plummer regularly to ground, and if thats the case then pups being produced arent from working stock so id say that NO THEY WOULDNT WORK WEEK IN WEEK OUT!!
  18. i disagree millet mate but i wont argue over it.
