i talked to quite a few lads up here last season who have seen and now own pointer crosses.these lads own wheaton and bull crosses so they must have rated the pointer crosses foxing potential.i wish i had better land to hunt over cause where i go its hard for the dogs to get good long runs...........mine sometimes give a little yip on rabbit but so far have never done it at night for some reason.on fox they give out a deep growl sometimes followed by barking like hounds ..........ive never had a single foot problem with these two but the bull cross and collie cross i had before were always g

i had a bull/greyhound which was much easier to control than these two idiots. it took the bitch a while to take fox but the dog just steamed into his first one at ten months,and has took a few since.i dont get many foxes so i dont know if they could take regular hard bites.you have to watch mine when a terrier is to ground cause theyll try and dig themselves in,on the last dig of the season we were digging down when i noticed she was missing,i found her wedged in a hole quite far down and we had to dig her out before going back for the fox.

ive got a couple of gwp/lurcher crosses.can hunt well,as pups they tend to only hunt air scent but once the penny dropped they put their noses to the ground. mine were/are quite headstrong and have to be carefully watched around aggressive dogs though they dont start trouble themselves..............id imagine a pure gwp would be a very good hunting dog,my bitch will follow scent and mark foxes to ground,and has found my terrier a few times when he went to ground whilst exercising and i didnt know exactly where he was........fairly usefull kind of animal when you own terriers.

i like the gwp cross,it took my bitch a while to start hunting ground scent though she would scent the air from a few months old.after a very shaky start she seems to like foxes

there is a show.its at old shildon club(upstairs)........its the only show i go to,ive never actually watched the show so i have no idea how many terriers will be there to see.

shildon show should be ok next monday,and i can roll home pissed after it. its the only one i go to and has a good turn out.terriers only though.

all i can say is my first plummer was 12 inches and would bolt foxes out of small earths but it would take a while with a lot of waffling/baying.i used to put this down to tight tubes.however when i got my next plummer which was 14 inch,from a different breeder, she would have them bolting in seconds from the same earths. but then she wasnt scared of getting bit.

we all know the laws will be tightened.the rspca and lacs knew there were loopholes but as long as they got something it was a success for them....... i cant see the tories getting in,and if they did they couldnt just overturn the ban.......and they certainly wouldnt bring back fox hunting with terriers like it was before.blair knows he has a strong economy,as much as i hate to admit it its only blair and brown keeping thousands of people in a job,most people these days have a job if they want one,i come from durham so im constantly reminded about what it used to be like after the pits and ra

im not very experienced at terrierwork compared to some but ive had small but game terriers that have taken too much hammer for my liking so now i like 13/14 inch terriers........however i visited a welsh pack last may to pick up my terrier and was suprised at how small their terriers were.these 11 inch dogs were dug to on a regular basis and their owners considered my 14 inch dog to be too big for most of the earths in their hunt country.

that sounds like a good idea duckwing, ive had to bring my injured terrier in the house as i didnt think just a heatlamp in his kennel was sufficient.a purpose built,easily cleaned kennel would be great..........screwfix sell under tile heating,ive fitted it before but it only takes the chill off the tiles i dont think it would heat a room.

got mine at a country store for 20 quid.its served me well but this summer im going to build a kennel where i can install a heater or radiator,that way the rooms warm all round.heat lamps are great but i think they must cost a bit to run if its on for days at a time which can happen with bad injuries.......im always worried that the bulb might smash over the dog or even worse pups.ive never heard of it happening but i still fancy another way of keeping the dog warm....

theyll both get chance to prove themselves,the terrier that bolted the fox was first dug to last may........when the hunt terrierman broke through he told me red didnt want to tackle it again.i remember feeling disappointed but a week later he phoned to tell me red had killed a fox.he hasnt looked back since. so i know they could come good yet.thanks for the encouragment.......i need it....
