  1. i couldnt see it too clearly, but they had hold of that fox im sure.......and let it go.
  2. tonight my terrier bolted a fox after an hour to ground.the two lurchers coursed up and down the field and up the beckside.i lost sight of them but heard a scream from one of the dogs,as i got there they had the fox in a bush but it got away.they chased it again but never got near.im fairly sure they let it go when it bit back.ill not know for sure untill next time..........i couldnt look at them after id cleaned up the terrier and stuck him under a heat lamp. im gutted.....i thought i had two fox dogs but now i think i have two that wont even do it doubled up........
  3. cheers dave.....these crosses are getting more popular. in the last couple of weeks ive talked to five people who have pups similar bred to mine. these lads have only got them in for fox....and they get a lot of foxes......
  4. went out this evening and the bitch bolted another fox from a very tight spot.the fox squeezed out backwards and at first i thought it was the bitch.anyway,it ran along the bank and was nearly away before the young lurcher jumped on it........the fox was underneath him for a few seconds before he took hold. then it was goodnight foxy.....im pleased cause he got bit last time and i didnt know if it would put him off but it looks like hell be ok.....
  5. yeah, guns are very effective.i dont like shooting rats preffering to leave them for the dogs but i kept seeing what i suspected to be the same rats running along beams which i couldnt get. so i shot a few with the rifle which pleased the farmer. i could never hit a barn door with spring guns but im not bad with my rws schimitar.
  6. I HAD TROUBLE ON A COUPLE OF PLACES AS THE RATS WERE IN THE WALLS OR PILES OF RUBBLE AND WE COULDNT ALWAYS SMOKE THEM OUT.SO I STARTED LAMPING THEM WHEN THEY WERE FEEDING AND HAVE GOT THE NUMBERS RIGHT DOWN,AND ITS GOOD SPORT.I HAVE A MATE WHO SHOOTS A LOT AT NIGHT USING AN AIR RIFLE WITH NIGHT SCOPE.(NOT MY IDEA OF FUN.....BUT ITS EFFECTIVE.)
  7. pig farms always seem the best, but dairy farms always have food out all day so you get rats.i took over 200 rats last year from one small dairy farm.i was lamping 3 nights a week and sometimes only catching a few but its good sport.
  8. when she caught the fox she lifted it up above her head.i could see the fox trying to bite her scull before she started ragging it like a terrier would a rat.she was with it about ten seconds before the young dog got there.but he still took a bite on the face. i dont think its put off the dog as he nearly pulled my arm out the socket last night when one appeared in the beam.
  9. by the way the fox was bolted using that old looking plummer bitch, it ran into a thick patch of reeds where the lurcher hunted it up and flushed it out into the field.after a quick course it went back into the reeds and just when i thought it was going to escape she made the catch. i was pleased at how shed performed to say the least. oh,and the i suppose the terrier did alright to find the fox in a tight rabbitty earth in the first place.
  10. thanks jd,the bitch is the one i mentioned on smoochers a while back after she broke her neck.my two are out of a gwp bitch to coursing "match"dogs.i think 3/4 breds would be more versatile.the young dog on the bottom picture is much faster than the bitch but at a year old overshoots and turns badly.however hes getting better all the time and i think he might make a fairly good dog.
  11. i know what you mean about clothing not having to be realtree but everything seems to be covered in it.most of the clothing in both fishtec and deben brochures only seem to come in realtree.ive tried to avoid it but i want a good waterproof jacket and trousers that can withstand the british weather.i do most of my hunting in tracksuits and trainers but the last couple of weeks on the moors lamping ive got soaked to the skin.last night i started lamping at 6.30,was soaked by 7.00.i changed lurchers for terriers at 10.00 and then did an hours rat lamping.i was wet through for hours. im just
  12. all i can say about them is they can hunt well and seem to have good feet and bags of stamina.both of mine are doing ok on the lamp once they stopped hunting up as much.the older one has found my terrier a few times when i havent known which set of holes its in which is really useful.they can bush like a terrier. on the downside there headstrong as pups and it seems to take them a long time to learn to hunt ground scent.they scent the air like pointers from being young pups.its taken the bitch a long time to realise foxes are fair game, the young dog has to be calmed down when he sees one--h
  13. after running beside a few foxes like they were her best friend my gwp finally caught her first fox at the weekend.anyone else use this cross?
  14. ive always worn barbour jackets and theyve served me pretty well but there a bit uncomfortable after walking about lamping for hours and there not exactly breathable. everyone seems to have realtree gear for everything from ratting to following hounds by car these days.im wanting to get some new attire but theres so much choice in the catalouges such as deben.so what are you lot wearing when hunting?
  15. used to use cloth pieces which were sold in bales at a local greyhound supplies shop.now i only use vetbed.its never damp and seems to work like the manufacturers claim
