Im just back from London picking up a new truck and my shoot is on a farm that has 350000 free range layers and got a call from farmer they lost hens last night .....so will go and have a look at the usual spots ...so better get the water proofs on as you wouldnt put a milk bottle out in this ...pissin down up here ...this wont be much fun .then out with the night vision tonight

Too big to get to small cubs pushed up in a tight tube and dont say that if a terrier has the desire to get there it will because that is rubbish

Totally disagree with I do a fair bit on the grouse moors up here and the foxes are hammered whether its by rifle, snare,tracking in the snow ,hounds etc if there is a fox on there ground they will know about it but every spring there will be 1 or 2 dens will appear

I have turned down a few call outs I will only sort out cubs on my own shoot ...its not my cup of tea ....Can be frustrating for me and terrier ....the type I keep are on the big side and can make a decent terrier look very ordinary

Just a few pics of some bucks from this season with the .222 I had let this lad go 3 times but he had moved to the march on some ground that is is stalked heavily so I took him I knew there was a buck working an area it was just turning dark but still plenty of light to see through the schmidt and bender the pheasants were making a bit noise before going up to roost so knew somethinng was going about ...a big feral cat came walking down the fence at the side of a plantation I got down on the bipod and gave it a squeak ...just with that a buck jumped the fence only about 100yards out s

This was caught on a sharps 11'3 #7 switch rod full floater all you need when the waters low on a black francis dressed on a size 10 treble bright sunshine and it came right out the water to hit the fly . I like the G Loomis rods ive got the 12ft nrx with the mckenzie shooting head and the 15ft roaring river with the rio skandit for the bigger waters this rod throws out a huge line .

I have had my worst season for as long as I can remember I am usually well into double figures come april ....Landed a craking 9lb fish today straight of the tide .....lost a very heavy fish and a crakin sea trout over 3lb ...hopefully thats me got my MOJO back

H e runs with a pack of mink hounds Neil and knows how to handle his quarry ....he put in another good shift today not much scent coming of it but he found 3 times twice under a rock the size of a car and he had to go near right under the water to enter

Bosun I am not going to take much credit for his training the dog was as easier than a lot of gun dogs ive had it was just in the dog I will take credit for giving him the oppertunities . It was impressive seeing the little dog retrieve a fox from the river

Ive got a lurcher thats no bad in the water too ....To sunny for salmon fishing so got him in the pool to stir them up for later on ..I was out for first light carry out our Licensed sawbill culll ...shot a mink ...then watched the lurchers take a line on something and new something was about I was on an island and next thing this fox came bounding through the cover towards me then saw me and started swimming across the river .....shot it and the we terrier retrieved it ...theres a first ....then as im heading back to the truck got a crakin roebuck very productive morning

This has happened in my area and know the gentlemen that pushed for this ....we have been on the hill twice a week with the hounds on these grouse moores and honestly I have never seen so many hares on the tops ...not hundreds but thousands of hares they really are thriving

lol....only seeing these pics now...... now heres the young men of the future..... .... you can just tell this young man has working dogs running through his veins.....look at the stance and all on him holding the big dogs...eyes like a hawk waiting for a slip.....bet he talks about dogs like hes 65 haha.... his wee john deere overalls are belters too! great pics MIK He really does live and breathe it .....he just loves the whole way of life and is a wee character ....you just have to teach them what is wrong and right.... respect and manners and keep only good people around them . he

He's shot up in the past year or so MIK! Funny how some memories stick with you.....never forget being on a dig a few years ago seeing the young un so concentrated on the job in hand and already knowing the craic (making sure his dad knew what was going on LOL) Lets hope all these young un's have the same opportunities we've had. Im sure these pics above are of that day ....the hounds had marked a spot and it very tight we had to drop 2 holes as the terrier was stuck tight mid tube it was a decent sized dog fox too ....it was well bellow freezing and the weeman never moaned once

This little fella lives and breathes our way of life but I fear the game will be f****d by the time he is old enough to own and work a dog ...lets hope not
