  1. Looks expensive looking at Duantsey Gun's online price list: http://www.dauntseyguns.co.uk/downloads/AmmoPriceList.pdf They don't have norma listed in .223 but in 243 for 58 gr, they're £26.95!
  2. No experience of S/S but Miroku generally are good guns (part of Browning). Congrats.
  3. The pressure wave in front of the bullet probably burst the tape before the bullet got there. Don't forget, at the end of the barrel it will be more pronounced as the only way it can travel is forwards.
  4. Other thing to do is watch where the fox comes from. It's unlikely he gets to the middle of the field hitching a lift with Fox Air, so watch to see which hedgerow he comes out of. Then find the path through. All you need do then is set up a camo hide flush to the hedgrow about 20 yards away from where he comes out and preferably downwind taking into account the usual wind direction. Leave it in situ for a few days unattended (don't go near it as you want the scent to fade) and after a few days watch for Charlie from a distance and check to see if he's still coming through. If he is, ne
  5. Hi Guys, What does everyone think of a Webley Raider pre-charged? I've seen one of these new relatively cheap recently (bare gun) and the reviews I've been reading seem to have been good. As I have a compressor at home, a pre-charged in some ways makes sense and its multi-shot and supposed to be accurate. So I'm thinking maybe a Raider, moderator and hawke scope. Also, couple of quick hunting questions: 1. Max range for 12ft lbs .22 against rabbits 2. Best pellet 3. Aiming point against birds eg Magpies ie head or chest 4. Moderators - do they have to be air
  6. The new application forms are supposed to be unified across all forces - Form 201. Maybe there's a difference here between what used to happen and what happens now under the new forms. I believe the new form is the result of a negotiation between the BASC and one of the police bodies. This is the new form, major essay! http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/form_201_-_application.pdf The new form doesn't ask for written permission although I expect forces will probably ask for it separately. I looked at Manchester's site, and they have a separate form for written permission. Doesn't
  7. Yeah unfortunately the garden is urban and approx 30 feet square. Public footpath up one side (albeit behind a hedge) and houses other side and back. Discharging a shotgun would likely result in calls to plod plus I'd be at risk of getting the certificate withdrawn as I doubt they'd view it as safe in such a small space. I think non FAC air is my only option. The problem is keeping the cost down as even 2nd hand air rifles are quite a lot of money these days. I had been hoping to pick one up for £20-30 as you used to be able to in the papers. Ahhh for the old days. @Bilbo,Unfor
  8. The Courts have experts in that field whose evidence they will accept and trust. I doubt it would ever go so far as to require that, as most people lying would cave in long before that stage when things got serious. However, there is some comfort knowing that you have a better level of proof if it's in writing. I have recounted this before, but my own father put in for an FAC many many years ago having built up a relationship with a farmer, (I actually think he shot with shotguns over his land), and the farmer agreeing verbally to him using it over his land. When the FEO contacted the
  9. It can be fitted to any rifle. Basically it's like a guided system. From watching the video...There's a video crosshair. You put the crosshair on the target then click to designate it. The aiming point is then fixed to the target. You then go to live fire mode and depress the trigger again but the gun doesn't fire until you get the cross hairs exactly back over the designated point at which point it fires automatically. You have to pre-enter windage. Apart from that, everything else is calculated for you and accuracy is pin point at ranges well in excess of 1,000 yards. They had a stee
  10. Is that right? Because some farmers handwriting is awful and a signature would be easy to copy...... If the farmer says he didn't give you permission or indeed rescinded that permission a nice bit of paper with a scrawl on won't keep you out of court... Far better to just have a good relationship with your landowner. It's up to you and what chances you want to take with your freedom. That's also why in the rather hot topic on the exact form of written permission, I added into my suggested version that it has to be withdrawn via notice in writing using registered post. The BASC versi
  11. Yeah it does completely remove the skill. Plus if some idiots get hold of this, you can imagine all the wildlife getting wiped out in one area.
  12. It's also about covering your back. Paper = proof. Verbal = stuffed if the farmer for any reason denies giving you permission. Last time I looked, armed trespass was pretty serious. Don't take anything for granted with firearms.
  13. Totally amazing technology but with some worrying implications for both sporting shooting and military / terr0rism alike:
  14. Hi, What do people think of this rifle? What's the best calibre for pest control .22, .25? Are Bisley Hunting pellets any good? I'm completely a newb when it comes to air rifles. However, I have a Magpie problem in my back garden and it's sufficiently small and located next to a path to make firearm usage impossible. I did own a Gunpower Stealth pre-charged a few years ago but sold it after it failed to kill rabbits from only around 20 feet. It was certified at 12 ft lbs so maybe this was my fault - I did try to use 28 grain pellets through it thinking the extra weight
  15. Ha ha. You might want to take the missus around though to complete the look:
  16. There are probably some crimes being committed somewhere in all of this, but good luck getting a prosecution. The police are likely to look favourably to some wanting to feed foxes as it's a common urban practice. It wouldn't look good in the papers to prosecute someone for feeding wildlife. I'd be very surprised if they took any action other than a few words of advice. Only if it persisted could I see action being taken and then only probably for some littering style offence. That said, I think a visit from the police would probably do the trick as usually this type of do gooder perso
  17. I'd report it to Hornday and draw their attention to this and other threads on the subject.
  18. You could also probably go down the route of Nuisance, but as it's a Civil Action and you could just get caught up in a long and expensive law suit. You could also seek an injunction to prevent him throwing matter onto your land. I also agree with SS on the meat point. I'm sure there is legislation regarding livestock and exposure to meat products. However, I wonder if involving DEFRA might be better as a last resort in case they shut the farm down or impose restrictions whilst doing testing to confirm there's no contamination? That won't go down well with your family. Easiest way
  19. I'm not sure you can shoot from the garden with a rifle because the garden constitutes the land you're shooting from so unless you / he has an open certificate, it has to be passed for the calibre you're using. You're never going to get the garden passed and it already won't be, so unless you're open, it would be illegal. Like the others, I know of know reason why you couldn't shoot near the houses (but it's prudent to shoot away from them), and so my advice in the absence of an open ticket, (and what be prudent anyway), would be to set up a hide or tent if you want to be more discrete
  20. Bit of fun. There is a point to be had about power and clean killing though. One clearly bled out internally. The other dropped dead on the spot. Don't disagree. 400yds I can't necessarily condone as I still think at the top end of reasonable if you're skilled, but 1000 yds is sheer stupidity given the flight time. There are some videos of Coyotes shot at 1400 yds on Youtube with .243 and .338 and it just makes me mad as it was not a clean kill by any means. A .243 and especially a .338 should turn a Coyote inside out and this one ran off 1/2 a field before dying. Could have j
  21. Well I know I said was out, but I couldn't resist posting this, so please forgive me. That's a 1070 yard shot against an Elk and an instant on the spot drop. .243 pfff. (7mm magnum btw)
  22. Put a camera trap out. Not only can you identify the quarry but with time stamping you'll know what time it's making it's rounds.
  23. That would give your FEO a heart attack! Imagine calling him round after finding that in your deceased relatives belongings and asking for it to be added to your certificate!
  24. Don't have one. Sold my pre-charged some time ago now as I found it ineffective against rabbits.
