  1. i would try accupels or jsb exacts, the best for rabbits will be the ones you can shoot with the tightest groups.as for range thats debatable but its more down to as far as you can hit them in the right spot.ive taken a rabbit at 56yds and it went down like it was 20yds. a lot of people say if you can hit a 2 pence every shot at a certain distance then thats your range, however im teaching my 11 yr old at the min and he has to hit a mint imperial every shot for 10 shots as i think this is more like the kill zone(bear in mind you need to hit between the ear and the eye)hope this helps
  2. i tend to sit quiet and every so often shine the light around the field, when i spot a rabbit i turn the light off and wait for a min or 2 but try to keep a mental note on where the rabbit was. then start to stalk up nice and slow, when im about half way over to it i shine the light around to check its still there but i dont keep the light on the rabbit i sweep it across and when i see it i keep the lamp moving past it (so its not feeling threatened with light directly on it) at the same time im spotting where i need to get to to be in range.i use a clulite gun mounted light with a red filter on
  3. i totally agree, ive made a few misjudments in my shooting career and im sure i will probably have the misfortune of it happening again.i find that even with a magazine its quicker to just run over to it and dipatch it than reload and wait for the animal to stay still enough for a follow up shot.but it really does ruin my day wounding something.
  4. it was with his hw98 that is putting out 11.8 ft lb so it wasnt a power issue,to be fair they wasnt exactly long shots so the only thing i could put it down to was that the pellets struck high, but all the same its put me off taking head on shots.ive also heard of other people having the same thing happen so id rather wait it out for a side shot
  5. with the term headshots its actually brain shots you need.if you hit the rabbit between the eye and the ears then its going to be an instant kill.for me if the rabbits side on i aim just closer to the ear,i tend to leave head on shots and wait for a side shot as ive seen a mate hit a few rabbits between the eyes and it deflected the pellet upwards and theyve run off and died in pain(not good)
  6. im down in camborne,if you was a bit closer i would of sorted you out with some.as far as i know trago do cheep rubbish pellets.my boy has the bsa scorpion and it loves accupels.good luck with them wabbits
  7. where you too in cornwall mate?
  8. sorry i cant help you on that one,i was just trying to save you taking the screw out and bits flying everywhere.i havent taken one appart myself.hopefully someone who has can shed some light on it for you.
  9. air arms vote from me too,i have the s400 and a scorpion t10,the airarms feels more solid and better made, ive never had a problem with it.and the bsa bought brand new had to go back to bsa after a lot of messing about (changing pellets/scopes /silencers,so a lot of expense and lost shooting time) all for the bargain price of £480,sent it back and it needed recrowning!! admittedley they fixed it but not even a sorry or a free tin of pellets.it works fine now and is very accurate but to me not in the same league as the aa
  10. ive got the 6-24x44 on my s400 and i cant fault it,my stepsons just got the 4-16x44 and thats spot on too,i will be ordering another smaller one for my boys scorpion.the allen bolt in the turret adjuster should be easy enough to replace, but it might be worth tapeing round the turret then cutting round the screw head before you remove it as im not sure if itll spring appart when you take it out as its spring loaded.
  11. definatley change the pellets. if resting try resting your hand on the sandbag and rest the rifle on your hand, but dont grip the fore hand just let it rest.good luck
  12. i see quite a few young ones on my perm, although ive been taking rabbits all winter.but where i shoot is surrounded by fields,so i dont think im really going to impact on their numbers much
  13. no worries mate, glad you can make use of it.happy shooting!!
  14. nice shooting mate,i got through 3 scopes on mine till i was happy, but youve gotta have kit that you can get on with.
  15. id rather someone gets to use it and if it puts a couple of quid in a kids charity then thats cool.
  16. right on mate, i will post it off to you in the morning ok
  17. i put a whisper 130 silencer on mine and it worked well.but when i had some spare cash i put a weihrauch one on as i heard they are ultra quiet(which it is) the reason i was asking is the whisper one is now sitting there doing nothing so if you can use it youre welcome to it free of charge.if youre interestd pm me your adress and i will pop it in the post for you.all i will ask is if and when you can just put a couple of quid in a childrens charity box.
  18. aa fields or jsb exacts will do you well
  19. im not sure if you know yet but airarms say fill to 190,but after trying mine out over a period of time ive found that if i fill to 160 its bang on the sweet spot and is good for about 70 shots before it drops off.itll be bang on down to about 90 but i tend to fill it when it gets to 100.atb jason
  20. i use my s400 classic in 177 flavour and its absolutley spot on. i use jsb exacts 4.52 and when it hits a rabbit in the kill zone its dead. ive added a rowan mag conversion for £60 and its worth every penny.i managed without the mag but its so much easier than loading fiddly 177 s in the dark. i use mine for targets and can hit tic tacs at 35yds every shot,i cant rate the rifle enough. let us know how you get on
