" a whisteling woman and a crowing hen will fetch the devil from his den " I was given a good irish hen I was assured was a crower, but I never saw it do it or any other.. ive seen hens beat there wings and look like they were gonna do it...but no crow, if I got one would have no probs breeding from it.... seen a cock take his turn on a nest thou

To be perfectly honest "gamerooster" as much as iam trying to respect your opinion I don't think it is relevant in this section, how can you breed hennies out of "fully cock feathered birds" ok if you had irish greys it is more than possible you could breed a cock that didn't have a full tail... and try as you might ,out of this slight throw back you are not going to breed hennies, hence like you said "died out" but they didn't die out they weren't there to begin with... not worth keeping well , out of your own admission you let go coal minor blues, so that says it all.. and a

Very nice uk .. good length to that 38 cock, and lovin that blue hen

as regards the age of a breeding pair, I personally would breed out of a good produceing hen as long as possible , but she would have to have really proved herself. but in general I think young healthy stock will produce , better offspring . kinda like a young couple having a kid, or granny and granddad poping one out.. one successful breeder had the rule of thumb the combined age should never add up to over 7yrs. if it worked for him and by all accounts it did fair play..

uk iam not going to put to much up here about culling that should be awhole topic on its own . but what I will say is uniformity. size looks and attitude to me should be very close in a family. and any obviouse defects in young stuff, should go without saying.

fair comment, I start the ball rolling - not using lights this year just goin natural, I personally always single mate.. but can understand the arguments for flock mateing, if down on numbers, "if there proven good stock what difference does it make" etc etc but single mateing and accurate records is the easiest way of identifieng the good the very good and sometimes the exceptional producing hens. as for incubators well very good for early chicks, but again I like a hen to hatch and raise her own, plus I think she teaches them to be abit more streetwise when out. what am I breeding t

don't count your chickens before theve hatched ! but if you do get a few out I think you will gain more experience raising young stock . and my bit of advice for what its worth would be to always remember, whatever can happen to gamefowl will ! and if you notice something that might need changing, moveing, fixing etc do it straight away. good luck theres no goin back once they've hatched lol -
b/w cool hand luke .. "no man can eat fifty eggs"

agree with the last couple of posts entirely, but I can understand guys getting defensive of the old timers especially if there dead, and spent alifetime building a reputation for a , well lets say not as experienced person to try and tarnish. however what does piss me off is the person who NEVER has a good thing to say about anybodys fowl ,set up or opion but yet never starts a topic or posts a pic, imo this section is really good just lately and I think everybody is enjoying it so lets not shoot anyone down in flames.. but accept there will be a lot of diverse views . some put mor
