    Baskets?

the baskets ive got finished wont take a 12mm pole. i can as LC has mentioned, make one up to suit a 12mm pole
  5. man has been using longnets to harvest rabbits for hundreds of years, id say the guys/poachers doing this for a living all those years ago would of come up with a pre set net. If i was to hazard i guess i'd say around 1800??? maybe carried in a sack.??

    Baskets?

again, i'll call the powder coater tomorrow see if he can give me a good price for a smaller batch. I've not got a runner right now, time and work does not allow my full commitment to bringing on a pup

    Baskets?

Thanks Joe, again credit has to go to you mate. cracking bit of kit. i've had to make mine slightly taller by 20mm, the extra 2 poles it allows works well. its a pleasure to carry around, i like the fact when you fold the bag into the basket it holds firm making climbing gates/fences etc easy.

    Baskets?

These are the smaller type baskets, i used mine a few times over the Christmas break. great for a little mooch about. I think i get around 16-17 poles in this basket.
  10. Me and metal just do not get on I'm afraid. If I can't router or plane it we just don't mix, and one of us ends up in the bin. The size of the blank takes about 3/4 of an hour to cool but because it is a billet, it needs pressure on two sides top and side to stop the warping. I have an idea for the next mould if it will work is another matter. To be honest I am enjoying the challenge, it's something different. Right back off out the shed for another half an hour, till my hands stop working. TC you could make a vice type contraption clamping the sides then the same for the top
  11. i saw something online with regards to the cooling stage, maybe you could use a metal mould and cool it down gradually in the oven

    Baskets?

Joe, these baskets you designed are top draw. full credit to you my friend
  13. I wouldnt worry about it Bob, the amount of crap in the air nowadays far out weighs a bit of ally in the hand.
  14. Aye mate 53-55mm will be fine. those meshboards you sent me down are great bits of kit, you wont be disappointed threelander i use brass mainly for my boards, polish them up on the wheel,,, the meshes slide off nice and smooth.
  15. My nets stand out because i dont cut corners, I wouldnt sell something i dont use myself or wouldn't be happy to pay for. Too many will cut corners to save a few pence or they simply dont know what a good killing net is. Quality gear at a fair price and i'll never move away from that.
  16. Believe it or not after heating the mould that was my next step, but, even though I have a huge oven the only clamps I have that can exert enough pressure are too big to fit in there. See what happens with the next mould I make, I have an idea that might just work. The problem with HDPE is that it warps and shrinks as it cools. The good thing about HDPE is that it is always recyclable so even my cock-ups are not a total loss. TC Could you make the mould out of steel to retain heat better?? or just make a bigger mould and cut off the rough parts.
  17. finally got it to work well done Rog looks good
  18. wont open for me. i bloody hate computers
  19. Me neither Nope i cant see it either
  20. i sent some quickset nets over to Australia just after Christmas 10kg cost approximately £70. If you dont find anyone that can help you out, drop ,me a line in a few weeks i'll see what i can sort out for you. Les
  21. But they will need holding up,,,or there just going to lie on the floor like they are in your pic,,,of course you can just delicately hang the top line,,,off a thin branch from the under side of the hedge,,,or break a stick off,,and twist the top line on the sticks,,like a longnet.... Has the net maker used these befor?,,,, Because there is the possibility ,,,that these giant purse nets,,,could use the full length of the draw cords ,,,,in other words the bunny hits the centre of the net and keeps going till it's pursed,,,10 feet away,,,,, To be fair this is unlikely because of unde
  22. Aye, only a touch thick but it'll still kill being nice and soft and 41/2". 20/15 heaviest i'd go for a stoppy or longnet. 2 poles will be fine, pal.
  23. Boxing day is my stick day, a good excuse to go out and walk off that Christmas day over indulgence. A chance for some peace and quiet from her indoors too
  24. My poles are cut around 83-85cm, saves on weight because 99% of the time if using 1m poles your setting height leaves a good bit at the top thats never used. Even at 83cm ive got some space at the top. We work land from north yorkshire down to penzance, i have no trouble maintaining a good headline height. poles spaced at 5 yard centres is a must for poles of this length IMO. If your poles are 7 yard centres you'll have a slacker headline. None of my traditional nets have pegs anywhere near 1m in length, 30"-34" at the very most.
  25. 2 poles will be fine, a 1.5 up to 2mm max running line. whats the net made from?? Les
