Is that how you got into Ireland? Lol. I think illegal immigration is pretty rife. I wouldn't grass anybody up except a paedo, I couldn't do it. But I guarantee nail bars, backs of restaurants, car washes, escort agencies and farms within a twenty mile radius of where I live employ a high percentage of illegal immigrants.

One of his intentions is to ban The Koran. Good luck with that, I can't see him following through on that. That will fire up Islamists. Banning and burning books is not the way to go imo. It just creates martyrs and whacko extremism. As the world warms, illegal migration is predicted to explode. It's a problem now and will intensify. Yes my friend was no stranger to courts and young offenders' institutions so he had didn't have the choice of joining the British Army.

Yes I think some lads just want to escape. I think men who join religious orders and become cut off from society have got it easy. People admire their sacrifice but I think they've taken an easier path in life than working, paying bills, worrying about your kids etc, etc. Seems an easy life to me doing bit of gardening, a bit of praying, early to bed early to rise. Life would be a holiday just giving yourself over completely to a higher force, whether it be the French Foreign Legion or a religious order. In a way its a huge kop out. But hey, people can do what they want.

I always thought well why would I be a mercenary for the frogs when, if I wanted to escape a humdrum life, I could join the British Army? I didn't swallow the romantic bit. But as I say my friend wanted to reinvent himself and start again.

When I was a young man in the 60s 70s, if your life was going nowhere, or you wanted to escape the consequences of your actions, then a way out was to join the French Foreign Legion. It was quite a common thing to say "f**k it I'm joining the foreign legion". The legion asked no questions and gave you a new identity and a fresh start. I had a flatmate in the early 70s who was a magnet for trouble. He had some fairly serious court cases coming up and said to me he was escaping to France, did I fancy coming with him? I was kind of tempted , it offered you a life of romantic adventur

Im not being Do you think the 66 England team could survive a season in the premiership without being relegated? I think it would be close. Maybe if they packed in drinking and smoking and ate/trained to the modern game. They would need at least 6 months to adapt to modern tactics. Hurst and J Charlton would definitely struggle imo. Nah, with the exception of Mourhino, the best managers, international or club, have been there, seen it and done it. Bobby Robson and Terry Venables imbued the lads with spirit and came very close. Look what Jack Charlton did with Ireland....tactical nous and a big 'f**k you' personality. Far too scary for the FA to consider__ too much of an independent thinker. That true genius of the game, Brian Clough was a maverick who the FA would not appoint because they knew he held them in contempt. Southgate is the FA'S poodle. This is the type of guy we want. Lol.

He hasn't done badly, but I've always felt his appointment was an FA committee decision. He rose through the ranks and is, in a sense, the FA'S chosen golden boy. He is the kind of man who never goes off message, is sensible but ultimately very boring. Personally I would prefer an English club manager who has won promotions and trophies . You need a manager who is tactically astute, but who is also a battle hardened, inspirational leader. Spirit , resilience,and balls in a team can often be imbued by a charismatic manager. Southgate will never be that bloke.

Me and my Mrs have done all that stuff and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've taught lots of kids to fish and taken themto trout farms and let them play and land salmon. I've also go in every year to give the case for field sports. Kids are usually very open minded about the issue. A good comp is a proper community school which involves everybody .old and young, middle and working class.

Accept most of your comments. And fully agree that children do best in schools they feel most comfortable in. Also agree presents should get off their arses and have much more input in schools. No not Ofsted studies. The inspectorate are another layer of parasitic bureacrats who make teachers jobs harder.

Yes everything is down to politics and the particular slant on the world you hold. People who claim they would be forced to leave the private sector and have their children educated by the state would be very " pushy" parents with very sharp elbows and would be very astute in making sure their particular Comprehensive got sufficient funding. If that means more teachers and new schools..brilliant.

I don't vote Labour but fully support their intention to bring private schools into line with other businesses and make them pay VAT. It would raise over a billion in tax which could be ploughed into the education budget. Why should the poor pay for the education of the rich? Under the tories the UK's spending on education is way behind comparable countries . Education is not a priority for the tories. They send their kids to 'hothouse' private schools and are dismissive about the public sector. This us true of health too. Again UK's spending is way behind that of comparable countries. A

I shout at the telly a lot and turn the news off. Just accept it mate..it's first stage dementia. The begging adverts which are often on at peak pensioner viewing times are abusive. There's a documented case of a pensioner who died after failing to care for herself properly. Basically she starved because she was giving multiple amounts of two quid monthly to various rip off charities. I've never read anything about Buddhism. But I did come a cross a Buddhist term....dharma. which, going by memory, is a way of life where you accept you must do the right thing, get on with your life and put up with the shit. Maybe we would call it duty or forbearance. I think most people practice that. Life is very tough at times, and for some people it's tough all the time with no respite. But they, we, get on with it. I never had a positive relationship with my dad. I remember some nice moments , but let's put it this way, I've never cheated on my wife or assaulted her or my kids. Sometimes a poor role model is all you need. You just do the opposite. That's not a 'poor me' statement. The same is true for a lot of people.

The theory is you have a rough childhood and an abusive dad then you learn that behaviour too and become the same. Not true. Some of the most sorted, decent people I've known had a bad start, but that experience helps them and they learn from it. It also helps you appreciate what you've got and the value of living life in the present. As the saying goes the past is another country.
