I quite agree the male has not got the power to subdue them,( well the big ones)my last fhh had a few and never got bitten, but I am looking forward to the male redtail having them this year. have you been and saw the redtail bud?

si robertson from duck dynasty bought a poodle for retrieving shot doves and it put the other dogs to shame ha, dont think i would dare take it out hunting for fear of being seen by someone though

no worries bud, good going. ive been asked to pick my brother up from his school trip tomorrow so might set out early and try for a rabbit on the nearby fields, will let you all know if i get owt -

i carnt see one squirrel causing him to do that, if it happens it happens if not i havent lost owt. how did your friend do on squirrels with his male? its times like this i wish i did have the right bird for the job, reading members diaries of redtails on the falconry forum has me green with envy, do you fly the redtails of breed them? I just hunt with the female now. Mainly lamping thanks for the reply bud, what happens with the male then if you dont mind me asking?

some of the injuries are horrific, one pic the toe was hanging on by a mm of skin and that was on a female harris, so im going to avoid them, theres risk in any type of hunting you do and like you said with experience it helps and the risk will be reduced but it still never goes away. i know it may sound sadistic but i do hope my hawk goes doing what he does best as i dont want to keep him to an age where it takes a toll on him when flying and breeding him will never be an option for me, and i certainly wont be keeping a hawk that can no longer do what i require of him so he will be put to sle

been reading through thread on the falconry forum about squirrel injuries and have decided to avoid them like the plague, just not worth the risk, leave them for the catty.

Get to a car boot and stock up on toys,then just let it do as it will with them. thats an idea but it would be nice for some toys that will last as all except the one toy is wrecked in days, he got into a golfball that he found somwhere in the garden and it must have only lasted hours as my grandad came home to the 100s of metres of elastic unravelled all over in the garden

already tried rope bud he just pulls it to bits then ends up knackering the hover as the fibres rap around it, im thinking something rubber, and before anyone says it i dont think a dildo will bide well with the neighbours ha

My grandads took on a patterdale x border its 13month old now, not a worker just a pet, anyone recommend a toy for him as anything we put in front of him he destroys, only thing thats survived is one of those kong toys, but hes lost interest in that toy now and it really pisses me of when you find him chewing anything he can get too. hes out for walks everyday for miles as my grandads retired and also hes got a pure border so i dont think its boredom, i realise it isnt a pet forum but im sure someone can help, thanks

alot of my hunting is woodland, although ive seldom seen squirrels around here i think its because i havent looked for them, i know it might sound daft to some but i do wont to get one with the hawk not only to experience that type of hunting but also to know that the hawk has caught another species, so far its rabbits, 2 pheasants and 2 pigeon. would like to add squirrel, duck, moorhen and coot. i know partridge can be taken but i dont know if it would happen, he did grab what i think was a woodcock that was carrying a baby then when the adult dropped the baby he went for it giving the woodco

jesus never heard of anything that bad, ive been reading about falconers in certain states that solely fly squirrels with harris hawk mostly female but a few males, and theyve never had serious injuries, but like youve seen it only takes that one bite, probably leave it then, maybe if i come across a drey i will see what comes out if i think the hawk has a decent chance i will see what happens, probably on a smaller squirrel, im assuming male squirrels are bigger and will fight harder?

same bud but he didnt want me on the land in the day so i dont think he would have taken too lightly to me wondering around his garden shouting my ferret at the dead of night, i think i would definitely have been coming home in cuffs. -
Has anybody done any squirrel hawking, im hoping to at least get one next season with mine just to tick another species of the list so to speak ha, im thinking of shooting big stones into dreys to get them moving? any tips? as i think most know i fly a male harris, do you think it would be ok to fly him at one and also has anybody had any injuries whilst flying squirrels, i know it only takes one bite but without risk theres no reward. thanks

well im very suprised the tiny yorkshire terrier rat killed a starling that got stuck in the fence, he has never killed shit in his life
