Can You See What It Is Yet?

Yes. FYI, we're known as Real Men. -
That's going to be one smooth reloading room. Does your better half realise that she's about to become a reloading widow?

Can You See What It Is Yet?
Coypu Hunter replied to Coypu Hunter's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Cheers! It's an HW85. The 85 has essentially the same action as the HW95. The 95 has no open sights and a higher comb, because it's designed for scope use. The 85 has a lower comb and proper open sights, with interchangeable front posts. And it's a bit cheaper, at least on the Dutch site where I bought it. It's putting out 16 fpe, and it's already managed a three-shot one-hole group at 33 yards before I ran out of Bisley Magnums. It quite likes JSB Exact Monsters, 15mm groups at that range. Just waiting on a delivery of Bisley Magnums to see what it's really capable of! After -
You should tell that to my cat... one time, I opened the woodburner to stuff a fresh chestnut log in, and a cinder spat out through the door, flew about five feet and landed on his tail! He steered clear of the rug in front of the fireplace after that... and of course he always keeps his powder and primers in another room. Common sense, innit?
-
Oh aye. Woodburner. Primers. Gunpowder. Should make a spectacular show when it all goes up! Not everyone is as careless as you make yourself sound mate...I think anyone with half a brain could insall and operate a small stove in that outhouse and carry out thier reloading quite safely. Anyone with half a brain will be able to read the instructions on primer and powder containers that say "Keep away from naked flames and sources of heat." Or have you magically invented a woodburner that doesn't spit out heat and sparks when you open it up to insert more wood?

Changes To French Gun Laws
Coypu Hunter replied to Coypu Hunter's topic in General Airgun Discussion
We've been in France since last July and loving every second. I'm not sure what type of shooting I want to do, don't think it will be airguns as my speciality was HFT and that became too much physically for me, and anyway there doesn't seem to be any of that locally. Joining a 'chasse' might be a problem with my limited French, so it looks like target shooting with .22lr rifle, something I've done in the past, or pistol speed shooting, quite fancy that. Hope your move goes well and you enjoy your time here as much as we do. The club at Vire has rotating targets for speed-shooting. -

Yeah, I find it difficult sometimes too, especially when the range master uses complex words like "STOP!" -
Changes To French Gun Laws
Coypu Hunter replied to Coypu Hunter's topic in General Airgun Discussion
There's a big club at Vire, another at Truttemer le Grand, near Vire, and another just south of St Malo. The Vire club has an air rifle/pistol range and lends guns, and they have a separate range for firearms. Have a look here and click on "où pratiquer" then select your department: http://www.normandie-tir.net/ Any air rifle under 20 joules can be purchased and held without a licence. The limit for pistols has always been smaller, but I don't know what it is following the change in the law in 2013 -- your local gun shop should be able to tell you. Thanks for the info; do you happ -

Take a GoPro camera with you, the footage of the car chase by SO19 should go viral!

Yup, they don't win any beauty contests! There have been quite a few stories over here about dogs or their owners being bitten, when the dog (or owner) surprises a coypu in a ditch...
-
Well, it's not the first one I've shot, as you can see if you check out my YouTube channel... but yes, I'm always chuffed when I nail one before it starts undermining the banks of my lake!
-
Ah, an inveterate tinkerer! Run a tin of pellets through it first though, you might just have bought one of those rare beasts, a springer that doesn't need any fettlin'!
-
Tinker with a TX? Are you mad?!? They're supposed to be one of the most accurate springers straight out of the box!!!

Some French people roast 'em, but given that they carry Toxoplasmosis, Weil's Disease and a number of parasites, I only touch 'em with rubber gloves then dispose of the carcasses toot sweet! The only problem with I've had with birds (magpies) is overpenetration with heart & lung shots at short ranges. Not a problem with headshots though, they drop like a brick. Thinking of flogging the Stoeger .22, but in any case, an HW85 in .22 is on the way to me from a Dutch site that does good prices. Then I'll have both cissy calibre and flabby calibre Weihrauchs...
-
what calibre and power is it running? .177 mate, with a V-Mach kit fitted, and it puts out 4.52mm JSB Exact Heavies at around 13 fpe.
-
Oh yeah. I zeroed it the day before yesterday, and it printed an 11mm and a 10mm group at 33 yards.

So, dusk was falling yesterday evening, around 18.30, about half an hour of usable daylight left. Not really enough time to get set up for target practice, so I thought I'd take a wander around the lake, see if there were any frogs mating, Moorhens or Mallards building nests, and so on. Got to the bend halfway along the western (left) side of the lake, and stood there for a minute to scan the eastern bank, where there are lots of brambles that hang over the water -- a favourite hide-out for nesting waterbirds, as well as sneaky coypus. Then, I caught movement off to my left, along th

Depends what you're looking for. BB guns are less accurate than pellet guns, obviously. Personally, I couldn't be faffing around with using those imitation bullets -- that would get extremely tedious extremely quickly, for me -- and I'd be bound to lose one sooner or later! I really enjoy my Crosman 357. I bought a few spare mags for it (it comes with 2) so I can blast away happily until the CO2 runs out without having to worry about fiddling with reloading -- just whack another mag in. I also like my 2240, even though it's only a single-shot. They're both acceptably accurate for p

Spring 22. Advice Needed
Coypu Hunter replied to chriscurby's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
It's called an underlever. You pull it down and back to cock the gun. There are two main ways of cocking the mainspring on a modern spring air rifle -- underlever and break-barrel. Underlevers are reputed to be more accurate, since the barrel is fixed in place. The difference to an average shooter would be minimal, however. Go for a good brand -- Weiihrauch, AA, Walther. Try before you buy if you can, at your local range or RFD. Something that looks wikkid may shoulder like a brick, so limiting your wish list based on looks would be a bit daft. -
Ratcatchers | The Good , The Bad And The Ugly
Coypu Hunter replied to a topic in General Airgun Discussion
Agree. Pistols at short range aren't affected too badly, but my old 850 AirMagnum rifle would drop a huge amount of power in cold weather. -
Ratcatchers | The Good , The Bad And The Ugly
Coypu Hunter replied to a topic in General Airgun Discussion
I have several CO2 plinkers, and they're fun to use. The trigger's an easy fix on the Ratcatcher. The real issue is power -- the max power is quite low, and will drop dramatically in cold temperatures. If you have a a youngster getting into shooting, or a barn full of close-up rats or pigeons where you don't want to be shooting holes through the walls & roof, then the Ratcatcher could be ideal. If you're looking for a reliable, all-weather vermin rifle, then it would not be ideal. -
So Much Choice But There Can Only Be One !
Coypu Hunter replied to The Welsh lad's topic in General Airgun Discussion
They're all good rifles, mate. If you have a local air rifle club/range near you, wander along and chat to a few people. You may get the chance to try the different rifles, or at least one or two. That's the best way to choose -- try before you buy. For the record, my 97 was wickedly accurate from the start. I only put a V-Mach kit in it because the original spring broke. Weihrauch FAC springs don't last very long, but you shouldn't have a problem with a 12fpe rifle.
