Well in the event of nuclear disaster, due to the wonders or multicultural britain and political correctness, us anglo saxons will be last in line for any aid benefits as usual. And if you are not an urban dweller, you dont count so you are doubly screwed! On the plus side, i had a pig slaughtered last week, so you can all come round mine for a bbq, due to nuclear fall out i wont need charcoal!

Evenin all. I have kept sheep and pigs before (1 resides in the freezer as we speak). Was considering keeping a few geese, has anyone on here have any experience raing a few for the table? cheers

Mornin all, new to hunting, and my first topic on this part of the forum. Just wondering if beddyX where siutable for ratting as well as rabbits? I wont be doing masses, and i have a little patt bitch already who loves to mark rabbit burrows for me. Just starting out, building a little team, and wondered what your thoughts were? Cheers all!

I have loads of basic questions like these, sorry lads! I had read that smoke messes with the dogs sense of smell and marking, and the new rat smokers dont work as well as an adapted strimmer?
-
Just enquiring what method of shifting rats from their holes you experienced ratters prefer?
-
its the same with the carp boys! I know its a different topic, but they turn up at the lake head to toe in realtree, camo bivvies, camo wheelbarrow, even camo mugs! and then stand there like a big dick at the waters edge, and shout across to there mates several swims away! No watercraft, just love to look serious

I would imagine that most people who shoot have public liability insurance, due to the potential for accidents. But i wondered how many terrierman have insurance too? There must be a risk to animals and property when hunting? Do you boys chance your arm? Can you get public liab through the fmwtc or countryside alliance?

Thanks for your advice and opinions marshman and jawn, wish id found this forum earlier, would have focussed my search and made it a lot easier. Must say, there are some helpful terriermen on here

hunting folk are on the whole a bit suspicious of new people, and rightly so, as hunting and fishing are constantly under attack from antis and ignorant joe public. The upshot of that is any newbie will struggle to meet these people and esp see their dogs work unless they are in the know. Does this mean that a pup that only has 1 working parent is pointless to work? And that an older dog is a Rubbish worker?

I have been following the topic about selling proven dogs with great interest. This got me thinking, where does someone just starting out find the right dog or pup? If you are the only person you know with an interest in fieldsports, who do you ask? With such a difference of opinion amongst terriermen, who do you trust, take advice from, cos you cant learn it all from books? Is a beginner best with a pup, or an older dog who can teach the owner a bit, but good dogs are never sold some people say? Its a ruddy minefield out here for us greenhorns!

how to get my patterdale terrier to go to ground
man o kent replied to racey123's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Im new to terrier work aswell mate. There is a fmwt club in kent, though not been to meeting myself yet -
Reading the post about dog TB, got me wondering what are the precautions you should take having working terriers in the home? The kids love our 2 terriers to death, and as they live indoors, they cant be seperated. Im about to embark on a few ratting trips with my patt, so what is best practice when we get home, give her a bath, dont let them stroke her til the morning? Cheers all

add to this the fact that they are running out of antibiotics that are still effective on TB!

Kent and East sussex

Got a large atcost barn to rat too. Still looking for helping hand

Just wondered if anyone on here knows of any good dayticket waters that hold 2lb Roach in the Kent/Sussex area? Still or running water suits me, just the chance of some good Roach fishing, pref in some peaceful surroundings. Cheers all

Had an enquirey local to me from a lady who has a rat problem on her smallholding. I have a Patt bitch who is quiet, steady and broken to livestock, but has never been ratting before. So just wondered if there was anyone local to me who would be able to come along with there dog/dogs and show me the ropes. Must be broken to livestock, with a quiet polite owner . Cheers all

Best way to get some ratting experience
man o kent replied to man o kent's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Im in the cranbrook area, about 20 mins from both maidstone and tunbridge wells -
Turns out my permission never materialised. Any suggestions to try and pick up some ratting for me, my patt bitch, (both novices), and my mate with his russell (done it before). Live in a village in kent, so plenty of farms, smallholders about. Just wondered what the best way to go about it was, to make the right impression and avoid the local bunnyhuggers? Going to beat for the nearby shoot , so maybe. Cheers all
