This is something that's reared it's ugly head in my household today, as it happens. We've got a Chrony F1 and, after testing my wife's S400, I did the calcs on Chairgun Pro and plotted a graph on Excel - as you do - and came up with the fact that it was doing +12 ft/lbs using AA Fields. As the rifle is still under warranty, we trotted off to the gun shop where we bought it and had it re-tested using a Skan. The readings came out at 10.77 ft/lbs. After further discussion, one of the assistants said that the Chrony is really only accurate if the gun is clamped into a vice so as each s

Well done Craig. There's nothing quite like a very gently fried couple of pheasant breasts on a bed of salad - num num!!

Thanks for the heads-up on the legal stuff, chaps. I've been living under the impression that it was illegal and now I'm thinking of how many missed dinners have wandered across my sights!

Hi Craig I can't see the pellet entry point. Can you tell me where you hit it?...........and before anyone shouts, yes I know you can't shoot pheasants on the UK mainland with an air rifle. I just being morbidly curious.

I too have a pair of the Aldi neoprene gloves. I think they're great for 'normal' conditions - not too cold but a bit damp. But they are certainly not good for really cold weather. For the really cold days and nights I've got a pair of these. Not all that cheap but really warm especially if you're sitting out in a hide rather than walking around. Another bonus is that they've got little pellet pouches on the backs of the gloves. Also, the fold back bits that cover the fingers and thumb are held back by magnets. So, when you put the glove back on properly, there isn't any tearing sound

Rob - at the end of the day, the most important thing you can do is to show that you need the calibre of guns you've applied for and that they are not there just to look good or fill up your gun cabinet. I would be inclined to repeat your thoughts (as above) to your FEO and let him decide on the best way forward. If he is the cautious type he's likely to restrict you to the guns he thinks you need. If he's a bit more adventurous, he'll give you the guns you think you need. But, until your ticket is granted, you won't know which one he is. Adrian - totally agree with you. I suspect tha

Hi Adrian I can't give you an answer for sure as my FAC application included a .22LR alongside my FAC air. However, I can say that there was no mention by my FEO of the air rifle part being open on its own. As I work as a pest controller, I was given a split licence. This means that, if I'm getting paid to act as a pest controller, the ticket was open for both guns and so I could make the decisions without consulting my FEO. If I was shooting for the fun of it, I had to get the land cleared with my FEO. Yeah I know it sounds a bit strange but, as I don't do much 'hobby' shooting,

Hi Jim I've looked on Chairgun Pro but can't make it stick to the three parameters you've specified. I've enter the weight at 16.4g (I'm guessing you're using Air Arms Fields in 5.52?) and 11 ft/lb but then it calculates the fps as 550. When I enter 545fps it only gives me a muzzle energy of 10.82ft/lbs. Anyway, I've attached the table and chart for a pellet weighing 16.4g with a muzzle energy of 11ft/lb. I hope it helps. As for the explanation of the other stuff. Don't worry - no eggs here! Just stuff flying over the top of my head and an understanding of phones that can

Chairgun Pro does have an 'angle' box on it. They've just brought out a newer version (I don't like it as much as the older one though) and it says that my .22 FAC HW100 shooting a Bisley Magnum at 21g will go a maximum of 557yds in 10.45 seconds when fired at 29 degrees and have a retained energy figure of less than 1 ft/lb. Just enter your gun and pellet details and then click on 'Tools' and near the bottom of the drop down list is 'Maximum Range'. It will show you distances for angles in 1, 2, 5, 10 or 15 degree increments. . Woodsman Jim - Is this what you are looking for? Sorry

Ok, I understand. I can wait.

Thanks Reaper, I'll go see what I can find on Youtube.

I'd be interested in hearing about this.

Is that where you squeeze the guts out of its bum? I've had a go at that and couldn't seem to make it work. Are there any secrets to it or tips you can give?
-
Got any details on the new version, Acuspell? I hope they've made it waterproof!
-
Moxy - ROFLMAO........the next time you do the bum shuffle or scooting, as we call it when our dog does it, let me know and I'll be there with the camera. It's got to be worth £250 of You've Been Framed's money any day of the week.
-
Moxy - ............... Chances are your going to be less than an hours walk from the motor. Leave all your gear there. What do you mean an hour's walk from the car? An hour would be far too long for me. When I've got to go, I've got to go NOW! However, I must say that Pianoman's list does have an awful lot of merit and I am now seriously thinking of upgrading my list.

Something I did (for right or wrong?) was to wedge my guns into a workmate and fire them off half a dozen times. Provided the workmate is stable you should get to find out if the problem is the rifle, the scope or the shooter.

Having just read Ghillie's reply just above my last one. The question that sprang into my mind is - Who owns the land that the cricket club stands on? What I'm getting to here is, can you ask the cricket club committee (if they are so empowered) to order him to stay off 'their' land? If they can and he then enters the club area, he is trespassing. Just a thought.

If the old bill worked as hard at catching the villains as they do at avoiding work the nicks would be filled to the brim! Sounds like all you can do is, as you say, carry on. The signs may be a good idea, if nothing more than to keep the FEO happy and show that you're trying. Also, letting the local police know that you're going shooting will prevent him next door having the satisfaction of seeing you spread eagled over your car bonnet with a load of gung-ho armed response cops pointing guns at you because 'someone' has report a man with a gun at the cricket club. While it may

Well Blackbriar, this is the third reply to your thread without a reference to the Milton Keynes Club because I don't know anything about it either! However, I will echo Tim's comments regarding the Kibworth Gun Club. They really are a good crowd and well worth a visit before you decide which club to give you allegiance to. I see from your profile that you live in Northants. Well, depending on which part, Kibworth is really quite close and maybe actually closer than Milton Keynes. I'll see you there sometime maybe.

Hi Hugh It sounds to me like you're heading in the right direction by talking to the FEO and the cricket club. The best place for a 'can of worms' is out in the open. That way no one can say 'But why didn't you say something before?' The only area you haven't really covered is this issue of your personal details and photo being recorded by the bloke. Did you mention to the FEO that he had taken photos and asked you for your details? Whether you did or not, I'd be inclined to give the FEO another ring in a couple of days just to see what's happening and to ask if it's Ok for yo

Hi Oman Just to cover your arse you really ought to get something from the lady (preferably in writing) to say that she has tried the non-lethal methods as laid out in the General Licence and they have failed. This will keep you on the right side of the law. Once you are satisfied that you are covered, you could try using a gutted rabbit with a maggie decoy standing over it. Then all you need to do is to lay in wait for them.
