Whats the best time of the evening/night for fox??
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for all the answers folks. Much appreciated! My monies on what "Richie 10" said with all the hordes .223 owners out there perhaps there all cleared up, or very lamp shy? I'd of thought charlie would consider it an honour to be taken down by a .204 Ruger instead of a .223!! I'll try differing times and see how it goes.... -

Hi folks, I'm new to shooting after having a 5 years or so break. I was lucky enough that the land owner still knew me and allowed me back on the land... Now when i went lamping the first time round those 5 or so years back, bagging foxes was easy. Yet i'm now lucky to see one let alone kill one! I don't recall the times of the evening/night i went lamping first time around, but it was obviously the "right time". I went out early this evening, when it was dark and lamped for 2 years and never even saw a fox! I saw plenty of rabbits, 2 deer and several owls up close, so i'm presuming my fi

'Buy once cry once' is a well known figure of speech - obviously lost on you. 'Lee one then' Hm... Chalk and Cheese - hopefully that does not need explaining to you !! I can assure you,I do not need an explanation, and yes I have heard the saying also, perhaps with hindsight,I should not have attempted humour, when dealing with such a serious topic as primer pocket cleaning, had I but known that it would have resulted in a sense of humour faliure on your part I would have agreed with you,in fact after your considered wisdom,I shall plunge my inferior Lee model into the depths of the nearest

By chance i came accross a Xenon hid conversion for the Stryker 170 and wondered if anyone out there is using one? I'm tempted to convert my lamp but as the Youtube member shows the end result using a pair on some type of farm machinery i didn't get a true idea of how well it worked as one light and if it would be worth the investment. It appear to be an easy conversion. Incase anyones interested the links are below. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Mark, you are absolutely right about the ultrasonic cleaner removing the carbon deposits, but.......... no ultasonic cleaner will uniform the primer pocket which is equally as important as cleaning it. For what it's worth, i just watched 4 youtube clips on cleaning your brass with an Ultrasonic cleaner and they all came out like new. Including the primer pockets. The one was a "cheapo" from Lidl to.... Just to add that the liquid they used was half water half vinegar. With a tablespoon of salt and a few drops of either dishwater liquid or washing up liquid.
-
I was thinking about an Ultrasonic earlier today but wasn't sure if they would clean the primer pocket. And also, whether i would have to buy one the size of a dustbin to get the carbon off! Do you use one Mark? If so, what type is it? Would i need a high kHz rating as it's carbon? The most rounds i would need to clean at any one time would only be 100. Cheers Jamie

the man is spot on as usual anouther bonus you just put on a drill quick spin and done , halves the time and stops you over-developing you forearm and having your mates poke fun at you I did put it in my cordless but i was having to use more effort to clean them than i was happy with.

I've heard the quote Pete. I'm not always a believer of it. But the link one shows $25, so it's not to bad. I was happy with my Lee pocket cleaner, (If a little fidley..) but found it got blunt very quickly, so i started using a screwdriver. Obviuosly not made for the job and as the Lee became blunt quickly. Never heard of the K & M type, i'll have a look. Thanks.

It will do the job OK, but it will be heavy compared to Lipos. Cheers Bruce Cheers Bruce. I have alot of lipo batteries and i'm trying to make use of them rather than spend more money when i shouldn't need to. The batteries i used were 3 cell, 88 amp lithium polymer. I know each cell is rated at 3.7 but when fully charged they're just over 4 volts putting me in the 12 volt range needed for the lamp. My basic knowledge of lipos made me think that as at full max charge the 3 cell lipo hit 12 volts i could use it for the lamp. And secondly, as the lipo was rated at 88 amps it would

I've got myself into a pickle with my lipo batteries. Without detailing the boring details i'm after a dedicated 12 volt battery for my lamp now. I'm thinking of the one below. Could i have a few opinions please? (No not you dekers.....) If it's no good fellas could you tell me why and recommend an alternative? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220895561659?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

That's as maybe and is potentially a topic for another thread, but it doesn't address ANY of my comments above. I have disected your post, you have made no defence of it or justified any part of it, your response has simply been to call me a ******. You are very welcome to your opinion of me but name calling serves no useful purpose on a forum. I'd like to buy the RBS version, that i've heard a few reports about. I'm trying to find a decent manual primer pocket cleaner. I've been using my lee type that came with my Lee reloading kit. After around 100 uses it was very poor and removed very little burnt powder. I did use a screw driver which wasn't bad. I don't intend to buy another Lee one again.... I've looked around and more or less made my mind up on the RCBS Primer Pocket Brush, which uses lots of what i think are steel pins. I've hear a few reports of them scratching to much of the brass away. Does anybody out there use one o

I'd go for the Jimny over a Frontera any day.....decent set of tyres and they go anywhere. Size is the only downfall.... As it would only be for shooting i could get one and do as he did and take the seats out. The tax is abit of a p****r though as the one he had was a 1.3 petrol, so was gutless and expensive to tax.
-
Jest aside, i've laughed at Suzuki "Jimny's" whenever i've seen one. I saw one parted outside Bromsgrove shooting supplies today. It had the most outrageous off-road bias tyres i've ever seen! I found the owner inside and asked what he thought. He recons they're the dogs dangly's! Amazing off road and sheds loads better than his previous Suzuki Vitara. Also a tad small so he took the back seats out. If my memory serves me well he stated he used it several times in low level off-road amateur competitons with success. Very noisey due to tyres and about £160 a year to tax. On the downside he s

Have you had one? Maybe you had a bad one? They're just a cheap 4x4 and fine for the average shooters use. imho Nope and i wont be having one either. Sheds on wheels...... Each to there bone!

Is this down to the vehicle or driver? Mmmmmm........Driver! Fair point!

Spooky, i'm looking for a cheap 4x4 and found this thread! You've probably bought a 4x4 now... Anyhow's i'm on the look out for a cheap 4x4 after getting my 12 plate focus stuck when out shooting I tried to get the the Mrs to part with her poxy pug 206 so i could part chop it, but she won't have it! So i'm thinking of a light 4x4. Something like a Suzuki Vitara or maybe the hated Frontera!! I've had 2. And they were old. Even when i bought them! My first was a 20i petrol sport on a 93 plate in late 2005. That "truck" was great! Never let me down and was great fun off road! And very capa

Thanks for the imput dogvixen01 Imho a good percentage of branded items (regardless of what they're for) are no different than the non branded or less popular brands. Granted thats not always the case. But alot of the time the only difference is quality control and/or after sales service. It's personal choice at the end of the day. It's the same as "buy cheap buy twice" Sometimes its right sometimes it's not. As spooky as it is the lightforce striker 170 is almost identical to my "Night Eye" lamp! Granted it reaches out further and if i'm honest the reflector looks alot better quality. Bu
