Finding A 100 Yard Plus Range Nearest Me.
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Will do. Cheers Dubba -
Hi folks, Could anybody recommend a rifle range that caters for centrefire ranging from 100, 200 and maybe 300 yards? As speed seems to be more of an issue that calibre, it would need to accept 3500-4200fps. I'm happy to travel a reasonable distance and counties like Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, and West Midlands are the most favourable. I'm just not getting to use my .204 Ruger nowhere near as much as i'd like. I could use it on my permission, but i'd like to visit a purpose built range every now and again. Just to add an update. I have found the Dursley Rifle and Pistol

Anyone Exchanged Their .17Hmr For A .22 Magnum???
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Cheers for the reply Dekers, It's good to get an opinion from someone who runs both regularly... If guns and distances (sensible) were identical would you say the wmr has the same degree of accuracy as the hmr? Cheers Jamie Nope, HMR always has the edge in accuracy, but it is a very small edge. 17g V Max HMR Verses 30g V Max WMR apparently deliver very similar energy by the time you get out to 100 yards, but experience has shown me the WMR delivers it more effectively. It has better stopping power and energy transfer to the quarry. I'm not entirely sure why, but it obviously p -

I could see why you would want to change from a .22-250 to a .223. I'm kind of drawn to a change from my current .204, to a .223. However, barrel wear isn't so much of a problem for the .204, and as i reload, (and enjoy it) it's not such an issue. Although, if available perhaps i should of gone for a tighter twist barrel to be able to run bigger bullets?? I digress.... I don't think i'd ever get rid of my .22lr. Infact if it were to be either a .22lr or the hmr, (despite my current issues) it would be a very hard decision to make indeed! I just love how quiet and accurate they are out to arou -

Thanks for the replies folks, sounds a problem with the gun, and or my cleaning regime. I'll get a rod cleaning kit and give that a try.... -
Anyone Exchanged Their .17Hmr For A .22 Magnum???
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the replies fellas, much appreciated. A .22 wmr semi-auto does sounds oodles of fun! (albeit, a tad expensive..) However, i'd like at least a 1" group if it were a semi-auto. But would that be possible?? As stated on here, and from my own enquiries, the .22 wmr ammo seems around the same price as the hmr. Pothunter, your grandad's zeroing technique was obviously just the job! Fair play to him!! Andyf, I see your point and thanks for the response. However, i already own a centre fire rifle and do my own reloading for that. It's very theraputic. And a hobby in itself ! -

jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Pothunter, Were v-max .22 mags available when you had your .22 mag, and did you try them for accuracy? Just to point out i haven't, it's just out of curiosity... When i cleaned the bores on both my .22 and .17hmr i used "Forrest" "Milfoam" and left the foam to soak for an hour. If 1" to 1.5" groups are good at 100 yards with subs then surely, with my hmr, i should be getting at least 1" groups at 100 yards bench-rested... I'll try cleaning again with the foam, but leave it overnight and see how that does. Just to add, after soaking i use a pull-thru snake and not a rod with patches. Coul -

Thanks for the replies folks. I can't take all the credit for the .22lr group at 100 yards. That was with the comfort of being "bench-rested" at my local club. -
Hi folks, I'm after a few members opinions on the CZ 452 hmr. I'm considering part-chopping my CZ 452 HMR for a .22 magnum, and wondered is anyone else out there has done the same and what their conclusions were? I'm finding my .22lr subs more accurate at 100 yards than my HMR. I zeroed both at 50 yards, and the holdover is 4.5 milldots on the .22lr, yet it still gives a tighter group at that distance than the hmr. Around 1 to 1.5 inches. I may be wrong (with my fading memory), but i'm sure my hmr, (when they were first released) would give me 1" groups all day long at 100 yards, despite a

Why Am I Such A Bad Shot With A Shotgun!!!!

Cheers fallas. I'll get there eventually, with all the good tips given! -
As above folks, cheap and cheerfull crow decoys wanted. And a few half shell pigeon decoys wouldn't go a miss either! Prefer full bodied crows though, but will consider most types... Must be either close-ish for pick-up from WR11, or able to post at a reasonable cost. Cheers Jamie

Why Am I Such A Bad Shot With A Shotgun!!!!
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Abit of an update fellas. I went to my local gun range today with a roll of lining paper in hand and a red marker pen. Now i have to admit that i had forgot alot of tips you fellas gave me, bar the "plate" thing, or large target to judge spread. In my defence it wasn't top priority today, as i'd gone there to zero 2 scoped rifles, and it was a last minute thought to take the 12 gauge... Anyhow, I put up x2 2'x2' squares of paper on the 25 metre range, both marked with a 1" diametre circle in the centre. Looking directly down the "rib", (i think it's called that??) i put the bead dead centr -
Whats The Better Allround Quality, An Mtc Or A Bushnell?
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Cheers Fellas, I went with an MTC Viper 4-16x50ir in the end. Not used it in anger yet, so time will tell... -

Thanks for the solid good advice folks! Thats oodles of info to get my head around and practice with. Thanks again! -
I own a few rifles, from air, rimfire and centrefire. And i'm not a bad shot. But i wanted to get back into shotguns again, especially as the farmer at my permission has hoards of crows. I bought myself a Beretta 12 gauge 302 semi-auto, with the correct LOP, and a 1/4" choke. Yet i can't hit a thing with it! I'm using Express 30g 6's with a fibre wad. I appreciate changing cartridge may help, but surely even the cheapest rubbish should be able to hit a pigeon perched on a post at 25-30 yards! Twice in the same day as well!! It's been quite a while since i've had a shotgun, although i was ne

I'm very interested in the Bushnell but some more info would be good mate. Can't find any links on google about it? What reticle does it have, and what is the full spec, as in tube size, AO, PX and the like? Some pics would be good to, via email or pm I can't be far away to pick up either as i'm on Warks/Worcs border. Cheers Jamie

Save by the bell Jim, as i can't find the mounts for it..... Let me know if you want to go ahead. If you do decide to, then pm me your post details and i'll send it to you the cheapest possible way. I'll let you know the postage after i send it. No big deal if you find a better alternative. Cheers Jamie

Not so sure about the legend bit, but yes it worked a treat out to around 20-25 yards, (never tested it any further) when my son was learning. No idea about the mounts? I think standard airgun mounts are 11mm aren't they Anybody able to confirm that?? I'll try and find the mounts for you Jim and get back to you. Cheers Jamie
