    Wheaton

Not being funny pal but I reckon that's what every Wheaton owner has said at some point, usually just before their dog sinks it's teeth into the nearest dog If you're happy with how it works then crack on, just be really aware of the risks involved

    Wheaton

Perfect if your chosen quarry is other dogs Seriously a Wheaton in a hyped up state flushing quarry to other dogs is an accident waiting to happen. They can seem fine for ages and then suddenly flip and you don't want your prized running dog in their way when it happens
  4. And where did the black and tan come from in some terrier breeds. So do you think Rottweilers and Kerry Beagles are terrier crosses ? do you think the apbt are rottweiler x ? Not for one second nor do I think there's terrier in them. Why do you think Terrier was added to the end of the name if not because terrier blood was used?
  5. An interesting theory that they used the already crossbred ratting dogs instead of pure terriers, certainly makes sense
  6. Just wondering, if the APBT is the pure bulldog never crossed with terriers, why are they called terriers and have been for a very, very long time?

    What Next?

I assume PETA will be rescuing all the dirty ferals on town centres then? Treating them for mites and fixing all those deformed feet. Naaah who am I kidding. They only care about animals when it gives them an excuse to bash people.
  8. Personally I think you can trace gameness back to the old war dogs and big game hunters, what became the modern mastiff and bulldog. That's not to say gameness wasn't also present in terriers, developed separately to the mastiffs/bulldogs. Convergent evolution they call it in wild animals. Two animals that develop the same traits with no direct influence on each other.
  9. I find it interesting that he was still taking his seat in the House of Lords right up until these allegations came to light. You telling me he's lost virtually all capacity for speech and all his marbles in the last few months? Or was he passing legislation while totally senile? Convenient dementia seems to plague these upper class criminal types...
  10. What I'm saying is that the temperament of working terriers and APBTs are completely different. How anyone can look at a bulldog and say they see a terrier influence is beyond me. See I think my APBTs are closer to working terriers in temperament than they are to the bulldog types I've owned with less/no terrier influence (bandogs and other mastiff types which if you look at the history are basically just big bulldogs of old) They're just more highly strung and hyper than what I consider a "bulldog" temperament.
  11. Remember reading about a different type of more rangey fox, called greyhound foxes I think. Found on the fells?
  12. All interesting points and its good to have the other side of the debate represented but I just see too many terrier behaviour traits to accept there was no infusion of terrier blood into the breed. I do think the % of terrier blood differs from line to line though with some families expressing very little or no terrier influence and others showing loads.
  13. See I didn't turn up for a court date once, 2 hours after I was supposed to be there I had two panda cars outside my house and I was taken straight to the court in cuffs. I don't see that happening to his Lordship though?
  14. I often see Americans with no experience of terriers say that adding terrier to the bulldog would of decreased gameness. Obviously they never met a real digging terrier
  15. When talking about the Americans using different breeds and "fixing a type" I was talking about the American Bulldog, not the APBT. The American Bulldog was always bred on looks first and function second
  16. I know the American Bulldog is thought by many to be a relative new breed but I've seen pictures from the 1800's of white Bulldog type dogs that look exactly like the American Bulldog. There was definitely a type of farm mutt that resembled the modern American bulldog dating back to the early days of the colony, the creators of the AB just slapped a name on them and started trying to fix a type.Very true and many of these American Bulldogs of today are probably new creations, but like you said back in the day there was definitely Bulldog type farm dogs in the south of America.Oh yeah there was

  18. Far too much evidence of crossing in terriers for me to believe those fantasist yanks The APBT is definitely as close as you'll get to the original bulldog though with some lines being more bulldoggy and almost indistinguishable from the original bulldog looks wise.

    Fekin Dogs.

Known a lot of GSDs like that, give very little warning before snapping on another dog and then the next minute acting like nothings happened.

  23. If smoking is such a huge risk to public health how can they justify keeping tobacco legal? It's not like they're shy about banning substances.
