  1. She really is in tip top condition......a credit to you.
  2. Oh bad luck. Do keep trying. Have you tried all the local dog pounds?
  3. Oh bless her. My husband once got a similar letter from an old lady in our village. Some blokes had set their Lurchers on her cat in the field behind her cottage...he heard a commotion as he was checking the horses, so ran over. These idiots thought it was funny to set the dogs on her cat. The old lady was shouting and crying, but could only watch in horror. My husband got the dogs off, but there was nothing he could do for the cat, he was dead, ripped to bits. He wrapped him up in his jumper, sat with her and called her daughter to come over, then buried the cat there and then for her.
  4. Yes, have found this to be the case too. Some rescues like Lurcher Link are superb and Kaye who runs LL is very knowledgeable. However, some of these Lurcher 'rescues' are a joke...they have no knowledge or experience of the breed and no 'informed' opinion of a good working home. I would demand to see the dog too....I'd also call your local police station and advise them of your intention....that way, if the rescue woman does kick off and refuse you entry, you have the law on your side and there's sod all she can do about it. The very best of luck in finding your bitch.
  5. The land reminds me of the land around our friend's farm up near Haltwhistle...very similar.
  6. Fantastic photos. Hmmm.....lapdogs indeed!
  7. We used to spend Christmas with my Uncle and his family in Bavaria and he had working Teckels. Very hard, game dogs...he worked them to badger, fox and wild boar. They didn't seem to be as inclined to get to grips with their quarry, below ground, as terriers often are...and suffered less injuries as a result. Very loud bay! I really like them, very spirited little dogs. Edit to add...there was a chap down in the South West who had some good working Teckels, maybe 10 years ago...I forget his name, does anyone know of him?
  8. That's a great one....what a blast from the past! I like the 'cats with thumbs' one.
  9. What a heart warming video....it bought a tear to my eye. She's so happy.
  10. I like the little fat, stern looking one in the corner. Lovely pups.
  11. Fantastic photos and very, very fit dogs.
  12. can i live at yours Yes! Everybody laughs at what I feed the dogs. They have herbs too, raw in their meat....it really improves their coat.
  13. The tomato thing is interesting...my dad always mixed pureed tomatoes into the Lurchers feed when they 'd been working hard...now I know why. By the way Moll, is 3 scrambled eggs between the 4 of them in the afternoon before they go out too much? Just wondering now....
  14. I'm sure others will advise...but I feed ours a very light supper of scrambled eggs before they go out at night. Then it's a good BARF feed (tripe, chicken, offal mix with brown rice/pasta and grated veg) when they get back and I often leave some beef stock to heat up and pour over it, if it's a cold wet night.
  15. Our cat is a superb rabbiter....he sits in the paddock all day watching for them!. When our Bedlington was a pup he helped her catch her first rabbit...she was bumbling around in the brambles, followed by Phillip (cat) when a half grown rabbit dashed out of the cover, it stopped and made to run back into the cover, but Phillip leapt at it, and just missed, but this gave Mouse the chance she needed to grab it! She thought she was great and spent a good ten minutes marching around with it in her mouth wagging her tail like mad, with me clapping and telling her how clever she was...hope no one w
  16. Thanks Buster. I appreciate that. And I know exactly what you're saying re: breeding from an older bitch. I just disagreed with FTB's opinion...he didn't know the bitch's age, just that she was at least 8 years old, he never mentioned her health or veterinary advice....it annoyed me that he would give such blasé advice. As someone else said, the end result may be a C delivery....if the bitch is owned by a good and knowledgeable dog man, then that's all well and good....he'd care for her and monitor her closely. However, if the bitch is owned by an idiot, it could be a very different
  17. Phew, thanks. Can someone inform FTB and his 'familiar' Christian?
