I've tried that one with the boss it works for a while but if you work anywhere with a HR department if your due a warning for time keeping HR don't except the Personnall excuse they want to know exactly why.

NEVER say its yourself that's sick if you've kids. just use them as an excuse. That way it's dependency leave and u can't get disciplinary over your family commitments. I've used everything from the child's having bother at school and it needs sorted asap to the childminders let me down and I'll have to stay off to take care of the kids. Havnt had a warning yet

I fish a river like that trout club water but it's on my mates dads land. He says work away if they come down tell them they're trespassing and ring me !!! I'm happy with that never had any bother.

Interesting you mention that ratreeper, I bought a car 3 months ago, 1 yrs warrenty breakdown cover 3 yrs free servicing etc. thrust release bearing went in the clutch on the missus so she rang me at work saying about this loud noise everytime she changed gear. She drove it over to the dealer we bought it off. No courtesy cars available at that time !!! Though under warrenty she couldn't drive our car home seeing if anymore damage would be done to the clutch on would invalid the warrenty !!
