Wheatens have been cross bred alot more than people think, this happend alot during the 70s with trial dogs so the pure wheatens may not be as pure as you think, the peds for alot of these dogs where writen by there breeders who may not have been liers but just missinformed when geting a stud dog or new stock into there yard. So the dogs around today may look like pure wheatens but there is glen,apbt,staff,ebt ect way back in the lines. So its nothing new to cross them its been done for years with strong dogs and lurchers, as far as useing them in earthdog breeding i dont see the point there a
