  1. I once witnessed a fallow doe take to a loch when pushed, it was years ago and on a very cold October dusk about 96
  2. Never grassed a stag only hinds and prickets and to be honest most of the one,s we had back in the day were caught against a fence line or a gutter/dyke. Atb
  3. Some people say deerhounds and their crosses didn't do the job for them, whatever that involved, but I have to say that all the ones I've seen or owned have been more than capable of anything they were worked on, two being probably the best dogs I'm likely to see, no fuss, no drama, just extremely capable and effective animals. I know you say deerhounds and not x's, but a few on here recently have been slating deerhound x's. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I don't think so, alot of bringing any type on is down to how and when you perceive the time is right to enter them. No good thinking, '
  4. Real nice pups, credit to you. All the best with them
  5. To those that said reds could not be taken with lurchers, well its a pity you did,nt get out more and open your eyes before the silly ban came into force. I am only talking hinds and biggish pricket,s here mind you. I have seen big stags run but never one go over. Before the ban and on permission in England at dusk or dawn lads really did floor reds. And getting them back to the motor or even over a fence was a drama. But now the sport of kings has

  7. I prefer to walk, but years ago did do a lot of roadsiding with my old dogs way preban. Not driving the land as such, just running dogs from van/roadside and you cant beat it for the amount of gear you will see in a night. Its has its place like everything in life when done right and respect, ively
  8. How do you know ? quite a few lads have took them back in the day before the silly ban and not just with bull crosses either
  9. iv never been lamping in a car and have had many offers and to the lads that have offerd me i would never take them to my land cause they will be driving over my permission i walk miles and it does not bother me just the thought of driving along fields stupid if you ask me jmo You hit the nail on the head there. "Permission"I bet that two thirds that " drive the land " don't have permission. In my experience gamekeepers are just as bad for driving crops. Most of them wouldn't dream of getting out of the comfort of there jeeps and "having a walk". My old boss who was head keeper used to la
