  1. They will most likely give a restriction (closed) on the .223 and keep the less restrictive (open) on the rimfire calibre. Ive just been granted my 22-250. When I wrote in and asked for the one to one variation, (not a variation) I asked for them to consider a less restictive condition on my application. They have opened my .17 HMR up but the 22-250 is on a closed condition. I dont mind though because all of the land I currently shoot is passed for that calibre. There is no harm asking..However Dan, it is very unlikely if it is your first grant on a centrefire. As we all know though, Police fo
  2. My HMR doesnt like Hornady. Ive been using CCI 20 grain for the past 18 months and its been great. Incredibly accurate, no misfires (touch wood) and never had the same problem as yourself. It is very concerning. Was it the same batch of ammo you was using. If so, and you have more, try another box. It aint gonna hurt to contact Hornady.I am sure they will be interested to know. I cannot imagine it being your rifle. Your firing pin is striking the rim and the round is going off. Maybe there is someone on here with more knowledge than me when it comes to the technical sides of things, but maybe
  3. I have to agree with Charlie there mate. Keep in with your farmer mate and see if you can get that permission. Especially if he has a fox problem. Don't hang around or you will find someone else has got in there to take care of it for him.. The days go by and so do the years.. Go for it.
  4. Same as you, I've seen a few reviews on the Browning T-Bolt and all of them have been very positive. Very good rifle. Welcome to the rimfire discipline Rez. I can guarantee you will enjoy it. I suppose part of that enjoyment is trying out the different ammo, and being the cheapest of the rimfire rounds you can buy, it wont bust your pocket. Sorry I cant comment on the Anschutz 1517.
  5. Thanks Chuck, You've just made me a lot happier. I can ease off a bit now regarding the scope. I can save over time for an upgrade but at least I know I've got a scope I can use on a .243. You are right about the net and, to add to that, this site and people like you. Your advice is worth its weight in gold to me. Thanks. Its surprising how much much of a step up it is from the rimfire to the centrefire and how much more there is to learn. A whole lot more. I will no doubt be starting a lot more topics regarding advice on a centrefire. Not only with the different types of ammo, but also re
  6. I would love a Remi 1100. My father owned these for years and he always sworn by them. Well done Andy.... Got to try it this weekend. Hopefully have some young rooks out n about too.......
  7. Thanks Charlie. Oh yes... I know how good Nikon are. Ive got quite a shopping list coming along now. I love shopping...... What do you think of those Bushnell Banners I have. If you think its better I step up a little bit more, maybe get a 50mm lens, like the Nikon, rather than the Bushnells 40mm, then I would sell these along with my camera and hopefully raise a nice little sum towards a rifle, scope and moderator.
  8. Thankyou for the advice Chuck Forgot all about Uttings.. To be honest I didnt think they were still going. Remember them having a 2 or 3 page spread in the Airgun World magazine over 20 yrs ago Same as you, could not afford a new zeiss, swarovski or similar. I have a brand new set of Bushnell Banner (Dusk & Dawn) scopes 4-16x40 IR. Ive never put these on a rifle. Would you know if these scopes would suffice until I could afford something more? I got in touch the Firearms Officer today. Really nice and helpful. Talked to him and took everyone's advice on board. He told me to state De
  9. I need a nice holiday

  10. Thanks guys So nice to have this input/advice. Got quite some time to save. Its the glass that has now got me thinking as well. Ive been shooting rimfires for the last couple of years and its not been too much of a thing when it comes to glass. I have also been a photographer and i know all too well how much decent glass can cost. I have no idea of the recoil on a .243 and, please correct me if i am wrong, i wouldnt imagine it being as much as say, a shotgun for example. Put a long story short, thanks to you all, i now have a better understanding on the rifle and barrel life, but what would i
  11. I would like to thank you all for your replies, advice and moral support. Glad I got the DSC thing out of the way. I had a feeling it wasnt compulsory but you now how Police forces vary from one place to another. I have seen all sorts being posted throughout the forums by people applying for their certificates mentioning unjustifiable conditions by different forces. My circumstances have changed considerably sincei first posted this. So I will certainly be applying for deer and fox. I have had a couple of people offer to take me stalking and that will be great for experience. Im a very happy
  12. Hi Paulus Got a Canon eos 40d. Tameron 19-35mm lens. Canon 380ex flash. Battery pack fitted to the camera. It is i pristine condition. Also have a tripod with it. Forgot to add......I have the original box and I will double check as well, I am sure the discs as well. The battery charger is also included obviously. The original battery is not holding its charge as long as it used too but I never really used it anyway. Always used the battery pack. This comes with a remote control for remote shooting.
  13. Hi Lewdan. How much are you looking for your CZ. Gotta sell my camera first but would def be interested if you still have it when i do. Cheers
  14. Hello mate and welcome. All I can say is: Don't Give up. You might end up regretting it. Are there any clubs around? Do you drive, if so, how far would you be prepared to travel for a day out shooting. Theres probably people on here that travel further than me, but I sometimes travel up to eighty miles in a round trip for a day out shooting. Its well worth it. Something will come along. Keep your hopes up mate
  15. Yes. They are great rifles. I've had my .17hmr for over 2 years now and its been so reliable and still extremely accurate
  16. Same here. 3 days off work and gotta get out before I get back. Hope it fits you well. Dont know what type of shooting you are doing but, it wont be long and those young rooks n crows should be out n about
  17. I can see it pretty good Deker. I do like it. Grain is nice. Gotta get my .22lr soon. My slot has been empty for some time now. Seeing your rifle in the pic has just made me make a choice ive been pondering over for a while. Need to sell my Canon SLR and get one very soon. I love the .22lr, so versatile. Apologies, am I correct in assuming the pic is your WMR?
  18. Hi Tornado Good make Miroku. As long as it is tight and the barrells are good should last you a while. I mostly use No 6 out in the field. 32gr good all round cartridge. Well done
  19. Bank Holiday (-: (-:

  20. Got a grass snake that sunbathes regularly in a dry stone wall just outside my kitchen. Love snakes
  21. Hi everyone, I am going to apply for a variation soon for centrefire. What are your opinions/ advice on this. I want to apply for .243. Ive got a feeling my FEO is going to try and get me to go for a 22-250 or .223 instead. He did this a 12 month ago when I asked then. The reason I am doing it now is because I did not have a mentor at the time and he asked if I could give it another 12 month or so after I gain a bit more experience with my HMR for example. So, the 12 month has passed and I want a .243. The reasons behind this are: I have thousands of acres to shoot and a lot of th
  22. However Adrian, Must be so frustrating and annoying for you. How long did you have to wait for your ticket? Did they give you an idea on how long it will take to come back? I definately agree with ShropsHire Dan. You will not go wrong with a CZ. My pic shows me with a CZ452 .17hmr. Its incredibly accurate, reliable and in my opinion far more basic to any air rifle. Especially if you were talikng about PCP's. The bolt is simple to strip and clean if you need to. Thats about. As Dan said, a simple trigger MOD and youre done. I took that fox at approx 80yds, in the head and he dropped instan
  23. Hi Adrian It looks like youre OK with the a .22rimfire but if it is the case, you aint got the slot for .17hmr. Give em a ring if you requested it and ask for the reason as to why they have not included the slot.
  24. Here is a typical example of a Police force not following Home Office Guidance: Durham police licensing move ‘unlawful’BASC is advising members not to co-operate with a move by Durham Constabulary demanding that shooters provide and pay for a medical report from their GP when applying for shotgun or firearm certificates. Currently the law only requires applicants to declare any medical conditions on their licensing application forms; under current Home Office guidelines, police may then ask an applicant’s GP for an opinion on his or her fitness to hold a certificate. BASC says Durham is
