  1. I also agree with you Deker For a newbie and maybe for some of us more experienced shooters, terminology on the certificates can be very confusing. There is no consistency within the law, neither do they always follow the Home Office guidance. When I posted firstly to CaptainBanana I stated to him, when I first had my Certificate it stated .22Rifle, not rimfire. That got me a bit confused at first. I knew I had only discussed a rimfire with my FEO. However, not so long ago I applied for a 'One-to-One variation' on my certificate. I took copies of it before posting it off to the firearms de
  2. Its No problem CaptainBanana You have definately not been tarred with any brush. You have done what lots of us have done. Asked a question. After all, that's what we are here for. To share any experience we have on our sport. Your FAO will be more than happy to answer your question and, if you're unable to get in touch with him, contact your firearms dept. Tomorrow will be a happy day for you, once your question is answered. Then its all down to the fun and enjoyment. Choosing, buying and getting out in the field with your rifle Can I ask if you have a particular rifle and set up in mi
  3. Got a few replies on here Andy Mmmmmmm, decisions, decisions I have to be honest, the Beretta. Good gun.
  4. 04:30 this morning Yes, I have to agree, dont think he would have been impressed . I think its all gonna come down to your personal preference. Whatever you choose, I think you'll be a happy. All the best
  5. Hi Captainbanana I have to strongly agree with Charlie. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. It would probably take you longer to post your topic and read all the replies than it would to pick up the phone and contact your FEO or firearms dept. When you sat down with your firearms Officer, what did you say to him? did you ask for a .22lr or .22wmr?? When I first had my certificate it stated .22rifle, not RF WMR or LR. However I discussed having a .22LR with my FEO. I have seen topics on here where people have thought this gives them permission to buy a centrefire, say a .222. As we all kn
  6. Welcome Paul, Once you start the hunting business you'll be hooked Ive had many a hour plinking and thoroughly enjoyed it but, there's nothing like being out in the field. All the best
  7. Hello & welcome beekeeper. This has to be one of the hardest, and for some, most daunting task of all. Perserverence is the key. Dont give up. As you are new to the forum, its good to get to know people. You never know, someone might end up introducing you or inviting you along. I wont go into it too much here, as you initially said you would like to get into rabbit shooting, the only question I would ask is, have you had any experience in this field? It would be best for you to start a topic and you should get all sorts of advice. If you are new to the shooting scene, (apologies if you
  8. Well done mate. Its a great round. Fast and accurate. Have you had a fox yet?
  9. Ouch!!!! Yet again if we worry about these spiders, ticks, wasps and also bee stings we'd never go out the door Ticks i seem to worry about more maybe its me. Never mind winters coming. It has its good points I suppose
  10. Well done mate. A fine rifle from a well respected manufacturer. My first and most favourite air rifle was the HW80. I have never shot the HW60J .17HMR but, if the build quality and accuracy is anything to go by you should have years of hassle free and accurate shooting. Don't know if you've owned a .17HMR before. If you have you will fall in love with it. Flat out to 100yds and extremely fast. Just like to add to your comment on bunnies and crows....I would certainly add foxes to it . Look at my pic. Shot that dog at approx 80yds in the head and he dropped on the spot. Used CCI 20gr Hollow p
  11. Hi Kawaka I see in your original post you mention you are in the middle of applying for your FAC. At what stage are you?? Have you filled in your application, got your referees and so on? The reason I am asking is because you are stating you are intending to start off target shooting (No land yet). I know Firearms Officers are different throughout the UK and so are their opinions on vermin and calibres and so on and on but, in my area, if I stated I wanted a rifle for fox/vermin control, I needed land on which to shoot on to show I had good reason for that condition to be applied to my ce
  12. Hi mate. Do you still have the gun. Been after one of these for such a long long time. Any ideas what metal detector youre after?? Thanks
  13. Well done Chris. Its a great feeling I am fortunate enough to work in a position where I meet large number of farmers on a daily basis and its a great feeling when they ask you or give you permission to shoot. Wont be long, end of May say, and you'll have even more corvids to shoot.
  14. Hi hawekeye I was a bit more fortunate than you. My firing pin failed to fire from the cocked position. I have included some pics with this post so as to get a better idea of what the pins look like. The pin on the left is whole whereby the one on the right is the faulty one with the back part snapped off. Inside the trigger unit two hammers come forward to strike these parts of the pins hence pushing it forward to strike the primer. There are also two little springs to go over the actual firing pin itself. These are in good condition. Unfortunately I dont have the tools to make one of the
  15. Thankyou Paulus. I have sent them an email. Glad you answered my post. As you can see, by this post i managed, with your help, to remove the disk and then the firing pin. Thanks
  16. Hi all I have an Essex side by side shotgun. Recently, the firing pin broke on one side. I have removed this but would like to know if new ones can be purchased or, would anyone know anyone who can make one. This has been a great little gun for me and would like to continue using it. Any help would be great. I can post pics if needed.
  17. Once again Paulus, thankyou so much. The pics and everything you have written has been a great help. Let you know how I got on tomorrow. Cheers
  18. Thank you so much Paulus. I did not expect such an informative reply. This has been a big help. I am not at home at the time i'm replying to this, so yet again, please excuse me if i sound a bit dull. I cannot remember seeing a retaining screw in the action of my gun. If this is the case am i right in assuming I should be able to just unscrew the disk in my gun, providing I have the tool. Thankyou
  19. Hi all When it comes to the dismantling of a shotgun I am a relatively newcomer. I have spent nearly thirty years shooting air rifles and recently rifles and have a bit of knowledge when it comes to assembly and so on. Over a 12 month ago I purchased a cheep Essex side by side shotgun. This has been a fantastic gun and I have had many days in the field with it. Recently, I was out in the field and about to take a shot at a crow when, click. The right hand side firing pin did not strike the primer. It stayed stuck. I am trying to build up some knowledge when it comes to shotguns so ple
  20. I see the Royal Mail has launched a UK-wide public consultation on plans to ban the transportation of guns and their component parts.. Basc has launched this on their website. Where next with our sport?
  21. I have to agree with everyone on here. I love looking around the hunting life forums and when I see issues like this, it makes my blood boil. The Police have home Office guidelines to follow when it comes to Firearms but, it always surprises me how different each and every licensing authority is. Did the Police give a good reason as to why they were not going to consider or look at the land in Kirklees? For the Police to say he has no experience with Firearms, in my opinion, is not good reason. I would be willing to bet the land in Kirklees has already been passed for something higher than a
  22. Hi Compo Thanks for the reply, (thanks to all of you for the replies). Compo, the Zabala I have is chambered to take 3" magnum (76mm). The winchesters were 70mm. I have to agree now with the faulty cartridge scenario. I think I was just a little bit nervous being a newbie. I have to agree with your views on shotguns. The gun comes up to my shoulder nicely and the bores themselves are like mirrors. I will try another one of the Winchesters now I have had a few replies. Its put my mind at ease. Remi: 940 crows. Thats, well, words cant describe. I would love to have seen that photo . What
  23. Thanks Remi Yes, it is a solidly built gun and I have to be honest, I get on with it quite well. Would you know Remi if it is dangerous for gases to be escaping from the side of a shotgun case, or are guns manufactured to deal with this, i.e a flaw in a cartridge invisible to the naked eye. Hope you continue to have many more jam-free sessions with your Fabarm. Hope I haven't tempted fate for you?????? P.s I wonder how many crows are shot and killed in this country per year???? Mmmmmm! Have to get everybody to post their figures. Haha
  24. Hi Matty As Scarecrow said, ring him. He won't process your app any further until he has passed your cabinet. Don't be to worried about ringing him. If he's anything like mine, he will be more than willing to help or advise. We've all been there on our first time app's but, remember, ignorance of the law is no excuse so, if you're ever unsure about anything, thats what your firearms officer / firearms dept is there for. When I had my visit, my FEO left me his card with his email and contact numbers on. Did yours do the same Matt. If so, he would have done it for you to contact him if you need
  25. Hi Remi It's not a very expensive gun at all. Its a Zabala sxs and I thought it might be the cause of it at first, (cheap gun, manufacturing standards etc ???) but, I went on to use the eleys and had no problems at all. The cartridge casing itself on the Winchesters is a lot thicker, and seems to be made of a harder plastic than the Eleys which have a lot thinner, and what seams more pliable plastic. So whether there was an invisible fault in the cartridge casing, I don't know. It's not happened to me but, having a look about the forums I've seen people having the same problem with rimfire
