So, What Sort Of Deer Are These?
maktayla replied to Deker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
They do look lovely without their fur and on a plate in your third picture. Mmmmmm! Are they lawful quarry Just joking Deker. Good post though. Its funny how you mentioned the noises they make. I went to my local garage late last night. There is a lot of land where Lapwings nest and they quite often fly over the garage at night and make their usual, unusual calls. Last night they did seem particularly loud and the lady in the garage said to me, "Thats those foxes again". I looked at her and smiled. Some boys that had been there a few nights before for fuel, just prior to going shooting, had t -
If you shot one, would you go public? Would it attract the attentions of Anti's? For example, when the badger cull was announced? I think it would certainly make the news. And if I did shoot one and had to inform the authorities I'd want the full pelt for the front of my fire place. The Mrs would be very pleased Anyways, hers a link to the original website showing a video of the mountain lion shot in Bismark, (not Llangorse mountain) if any of you nice people fancy having a look. I think you will agree it is definately the same truck and cat and so on. http://www.kxnet.com/story/2392131

Thanks for the replies. 'Yokel Matt' I agree with you. There are a lot of these stories going around and I am also sceptical. I am beginning to wonder if there is anything like these cats wondering our countryside. As I said I meet a huge amount of farmers on a daily basis in a very busy abattoir. I am sure if these animals did exist, sheep would have to be top on their grocery list. Easy prey. Today was the first time Ive heard anything in 13yrs of sheep being killed. That turned out to be untrue of course. Thankyou too Sportingshooter. I think you just confirmed what I had in my head anywa

P.s. Apologies if ive posted this in the wrong section.

Hi all. Been away for a while. In my job I am very lucky to meet a hell of a lot of farmers on a day to day basis. Earlier today, a farmer I know very well arrived and asked me if I had heard about a cat that had been shot recently on Llangorse mountain. I hadn't, so obviously I was very intrigued as to what he had to tell me. He went on to tell me it wasn't a black cat like most people report to see, this cat was brown in colour and it had been killing sheep. I asked the farmer if he had a photo of it. I am sure he told me it was on facebook. However, he told me he would send me a photo when

CeltiCrusader and SneakySniper. What a coincidence you mentioned where you got your ammo from. When i started this post I mentioned I had been using CCI for a long time. 20 grain and not a problem at all. Eventually i was finding it difficult to get them so I ended up getting Winchester. Guess where from....... an thats what got jammed in my barrel. Very strange...........

.22-250 Newbie Advice Update (Thanks)
maktayla replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Adrian. Thanks for that. It sure does sound like you have an head ache. Its such a big topic when it comes to conditions on your licence. What reasons did they give for the mentoring condition? Im with South Wales Police. What did BASC say? How long have you had your FAC for and is it only rimfire. Sorry about all the questions mate because I know itsnot gonna help you much. Do you have someone who can mentor you? Dan: Same as me mate. Got 500 rounds. Gonna be awful expensive if i was to buy that amount -
Well done Dan. You got it after. Its a lovel fast round. Happy shooting. My new rifle loves the Norma.

.22-250 Newbie Advice Update (Thanks)
maktayla replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for that Charlie. First I had heard of them. Its true what they say, You learn something new every day. What materials do you use in the mold? Yes mate, Keeping all my case. Im so glad my rifle likes Norma ammo. I know i can get a better grouping and its all down to me and getting used to the rifle. Cant wait to get my first Charlie with it. I know ive had them with my HMR but shooting my first centrefire yesterday gave me a buzz ive never had before. All i want to do now is go out. -
Hi halamrose Ive got my own bit of invention for cleaning my Hmr and its served me very well for the last 2 years. Problem is though it is too flexible to drive out the round. I eventually purchased a rod last Friday and it wassurprisingly difficult to drive that bullet out from the barrel. Too hard in my opinion. Its out now and everything looks good. Just got to get out and have another go with the Winchesters.

Yes Ianm I agree with you there. I know I need more practice and cant wait to get back out. I managed to get a 1" high at hundred yards with a 1-1 and a half inch group witht the last three rounds. Time was against me though and I know with more practice and different ranges I will get better. It won't be long now Dan. Give them a ring tomorrow. -
Hi Guys Just wanted to share this with you after I started a thread, with the a similar title, around 2 weeks ago. After reading all your advice you have given me and the other different posts, I've eventually gone and done it. I bought myself a .22-250 on Friday. I am a very happy chappy now. My budget was very tight and after reading all your posts on second hand .22-250's I decided to go new. Obviously, for a new rifle I was going to pay a whole lot more, so I decided to do a lot of reading, surfing the web and Youtubing.... I eventually settled on a Savage Axis Stainless. It has

Yes thanks CC.

Cheers walshie. I will let you know on Friday. Got to go and have a look at the rifle first and ive got to see how the cash is then. I will check the thread. Once again. Thanks
-
Thanks Walshie. Thats what I will do. Small taps ive been told.

Hi Walshy Im realtively new to the centrefire world. Was wondering, would the moderator work fine on a 22-250? If so, how much would you be able to post and how much. Going to have a look at a rifle on Friday, my budget is tight and they are looking at around £200 for a new Mod'

Stalking Directory........Of course..... Cheers Charlie See what you mean... Open to a lot of interpretation that one. I know when I fire a round, if I am not entirely sure that round has left the barrel I always check before chambering another. I think that should be the case no matter what the calibre. However, it cannot be denied, it seems to be more of a problem with rimfire. Going to get a rod on Friday to get that round out of my barrel. Gonna kill two birds with one stone and have a look at the Savage Axis .22-250 stainless. It's up for £385 brand new and I am on a very tight b

P.S Gents Even though the round is approx 2" from the chamber, I have been advised to tap it all the way through the barrel??? This advice is from a RFD. Any suggestions.. Has anyone else tapped it back toward the chamber end without any consequences??
-
Thanks for your replies. I have to be honest, this is the first problem I have had, and it's only since a change of ammo form CCI to Winchester. Dan: You're right, I should have listened to my head and bought one a while back. Oh well, a trip down Sports Man Gun centre to see what they have. The trouble is, I do like my HMR. So, I will keep hold of it and see how things go Charlie: You were saying you seen it last week on SD, about a guy who is trying to get Health and Safety involved. What happened there. Did he chamber another round? Sorry to sound stupid but, what is SD?
-
Thanks Jacknife. I don't have a cleaning rod but I think I will have to purchase one. It was so strange though. Not even a little noise. Its as if there was very little if any powder in the round. I have lost all faith in these Winchesters now. Probably a good idea to buy one anyway should this occur again. Ruined my day. Glad I took the shotgun as well.

Been shooting my HMR now for over 2 and a half years. Had scope problems first and then my rifle eventually settled down on CCI 20 Grain. It likes them, and I have never had a problem at all with any round. Quite recently I have been having problems getting hold of CCI so after ringing around and talking to a few RFD's I was talked into trying the Winchester 20 Grain. So far out of the first 25 rounds I have two rounds with a tiny split in the neck after firing. I thought to myself, O.K, keep an eye on it and see if I have any more. I was out today and chambered a Winchester, took aim on a c

Got A New Scope But No Rifle :(
maktayla replied to hutchey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Same as me guys. Got the .22-250 slot on my certificate, got ammo, scope and mounts but no rifle yet. And, to make matters worse, I went out today with my HMR and a round has got stuck in my barrel. Got to start a new thread on this one, need some help / advice. Not happy............ -
SportingShooter: You are absolutely right. They cannot overly apply conditions to certificate as to make it almost impossible for that person to use a firearm Bigad: I recently had a discussion with my FEO prior to me applying for a variation (centrefire) on my certificate. Upon asking him what reasons I need to put down on my application, he told me Home Office Guidance has recently changed (2013) and to put down, 'Zeroing / target price, deer and any other lawful quarry. He did mention it was important to note the phrase, ANY OTHER LAWFUL QUARRY and the fact I no longer need to list

Rikweller You can still phone them. Tell them you are just enquiring as to a time scale and to see if they had much of a back log. Need to plan purchase of a rifle and the land owner has been asking you as well due to the rabbit problem CelticCrusader: I would imagine we come under the same area. That would be great, handy to have. It might be the same person as I have.
-
You were lucky CC. Yes, mine took 5 months, almost 6. Out of curiosity CC, what Police force do you fall under? Rikweller: When you say, 'you have only just put it in,' How long has it been?
