  1. They were, saluki grey collie grey types, that was the general make up. The dogs were of similar breeding and just seemed to take to it more naturally. Iv always kept lurcher bitches an would like to keep it that way but I'm thinking about a dig this time for this reason. ( just incase the ban gets lifted of course )
  2. Have a border bitch that never shuts up, She yaps at everything and a young dog that's never opened his mouth once.
  3. I think I would to mate, a decent sized dog that had plenty go about it over a smaller greyhound. The only thing is the borders aren't as leggy as the bedlingtons, not sure what size they'd make.
  4. Iv always thought bitches were better workers tho and worked harder than dogs in cover and finding game.

    Ratting

Has anyone got any ratting permission I can tag along with with my terriers. My farms are wiped out with poison now and been capping doors for weeks. I have bits of permission that your welcome on for lamping, mouching, Decoying etc in return.
  6. Your probably right mate, although in my experience i honestly haven't seen a decent fox dog that was a bitch they all seemed to be dogs. I had a bitch that was a whippet type that fired right into them all the time but just her height n build that let her down. There seems to be more dogs doing the job so was wanting to hear different stories.
  7. Back in the good old days which of the 2 made for better fox dogs and hunters?I know every dog is different but would like to hear what other people's different views and experiences were. I always kept bitches and to be honest none ever made good fox dogs only taken a few a season. Are dogs more cut out for it than bitches? Cheers lads
  8. Alot of border dogs are quite big now aswell.
  9. Anyone heard or seen this type of lurcher working, how do you think they would turn out if it was worker to worker?
  10. "The hares are sometimes used as food but more often there left lying which makes this a sport" if they hadn't banned it I'm sure every hare that was caught up and down the country would be took home for the table or dog food and we would be living off the land like we should be! f*****g joke!!!!
  11. I always fancied a beddy greyhound. I think the 3/4 would be more suited for me tho.
  12. The dogs have got to go out and do enough that keeps me happy, whether that's below ground, ratting or bushing. They might be branded useless by others or low standard but end of the day they only need to please me. If they didn't do what I asked with earthwork the bitch makes a great ratter and flusher. The dog at this stage hasn't shown much if anything really but but hel be 2 in April and he is a bit immature still. he is really steady and biddable so there will be a job for him somewhere.

    Imping primaries

Anyone had to imp a primary on a Harris?
  14. Same here mate. There's no point postin' about Borders on THL 'cos you'll only get negative comments from the anti Border brigade. Let's get the positive ones posted and let people hear about the ones that are working and doing well.
  15. I just work borders, got 2 young ones that will be getting entered this season.
  16. My young bitch is from working stuff ( so I was told anyway) the dog isn't although he has the same sire as my oldest bitch. She entered and was dug to at 13 mnth but left her to late to take a litter from so I took a gamble with getting a dog from her lines to put with my young bitch ( if they both turn out anyway)
  17. Got 2 young ones here that I'm hoping will go this year. The bitch will be 2 end of oct and the dog will 2 in April. They just got a bit of ratting and flushing and a few rags at shot ones last season as they weren't ready for anything strenuous. The bitch started going through a couple of earths at the end of the season but nothing was home. This year will be the year I hope. For the bitch at Least. If I can get the 2 of them going to ground working then iv got my own wee breeding to carry on with but time will tell.
  18. Thanks for taking the time to post that mate. Drainage was where I failed with my current kennels so il be taking all this into account.
