Woodoak, as seen the law is interpreted by different forces/individual constables as they see fit. My advice would be to contact your constabulary and give them the dates, they may also want to inspect it but I really don't see it as being a problem. An imitation weapon is defined as one that is 'indistinguishable from the real thing, even at close range', so I can't see you ruffling feathers with a wooden cutout, but better to be safe than sorry I'm not a lawyer, just saying what I'd do in that situation....

Firstly, snipers never work alone. Secondly, smell is important as it reminds you of deodorant, aftershave, cigarette smoke and the need to avoid them. If you've ever been to a jungle or been out and about at night with a few guys you'll know about how easy it is to pick up on trace scents. I'm a smoker and can smell things at unbelievable distances a long as the wind is right. Who gives a s**t about the ban - you follow the rules and antis grass anyway... Cops turn up and you're on the back foot straight away as they haven't got a clue about the 'law'. Also, I don't work dogs but the ban is crap, the reasons behind it were criminal, and let's be honest, more laws are broken everyday at Westminster than on a field in the middle of nowhere. Now the Tories are in they won't risk losing even more public support so forget any chance of a repeal, you've got more chance of Tony Blair paying his taxes.
