  1. I was wondering if it was possible to make a decent living out of shooting (pest and vermin control)? I don't mean traditional pest control (wasps, cockroaches etc), but fox, rabbit and mole control. A dream for most shooters, but what would the chances be of getting a few long term contracts, possibly on larger farms with livestock? What sort of earning potential would be in it? I am aware of a few 'traditional mole catchers' and suchlike, but for someone working on their own, with own transport, guns, traps (a falcon has also been suggested to me), would it be a good idea to do it without
  2. Looking to learn from an experienced hunter/shooter in Scotland (Lothian/Borders/Fife) SGC holder, BASC insured. 7 years service (army) so very experienced with firearms and shooting. I would be grateful if someone would take me out with them to teach me whatever they know, i believe that the only way to learn is to get out there and do it yourself. Perhaps you could do with a lamping partner/workhorse a couple nights a week? Looking to build up my experience before applying for my FAC, i have been shooting for 10+ years but it would be a great help if i had someone to learn from. Feel f

  6. If you are willing to take me out and show me the ropes I would be very grateful. Live in Edinburgh but can travel. Interested in foxing, rabbiting, lamping and the like. SGC holder with alot of experience with firearms. Many thanks, Dan.
  7. Thought everyone would appreciate this one, I only remembered this last night (Apologies if I'm a bit vague, I have to be careful what I say). A couple of years ago, I was working in the south of England. The task was to put a rural building under surveillance. The first option of getting there didn't work out, so we went to plan b... Walking up a river to get as close as we could to the target, then cutting across and making our way cross country. It was about 3am in the middle of winter so as you can all imagine we were in a right state by the time we left the river We ended up at this

  13. Cheers dad yes I know it can be tough... Handgun ban in 1989 = 400% increase in armed crime to date etc etc... I don't understand how the government don't understand simple statistics but there you go, I don't see shooting as a sport becoming any easier in the coming years so it's my responsibility to keep our reputation clean. I'm looking forward to going for my FAC in the next year, I don't see it as a major obstacle just another challenge, if I have good reason and permission then it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks for your thoughts dadioles, atb, Dan.
  14. Bit about myself, just been granted SGC, shot air rifles for years, serving soldier, live in Edinburgh. Found some good advice on here so far, mainly into foxing, rabbiting, and deer stalking (but not as much as the other two). So hello!
  15. Morning all! I'm a noob, so should really post in the newbies section first but thought I would let everyone know the ins and outs of my SGC application first. I'm 22, and serving in the army (though leaving at the end of the year). I applied for my SGC over 6 months ago, and have just received it and yes, it was to my surprise!!! I have been in trouble with the police from an early age, nothing too serious but enough of a pattern to give cause for concern according to the FEO. I also had anger management not too long ago. I got the impression that other things they weren't too happy about
