working lurchers/whippets and flapping dogs
darren lurcher posted a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
alright lads i tried posting this before it wouldn let me but who agrees with me that at dog shows flapping hounds i mean lurchers and show whippets should be judged in separate rings. Some of theses dogs are being called lurchers when there 7/8 hound 1//8 whippet how much hound can ya get into a lurcher a friend of mine does say and hes right. i tthink any thing over 3/4 shouldn be called a lurcher .I just think that our working dogs shouldn be in a class with these type of dogs i go to a dog show were i see lurchers that never done a hard night lamping winning and next to it i see a battere -
Martin, you most likely did tell the truth about Ernie when you let him out to stud but when people try to sell the pups as full bred whippets is where the problem lies over here when it comes to flapper racing, over here we do not class them as non ped whippets they are whippet greyhound lines,If Ernie sire a litter of pups to a greyhound bitch, what would you class them? are they whippet/greyhound or are they still a non ped whippet? and how much greyhound can you put into a lurcher to stop calling them lurchers anymore,15/16 ,31/32 or some are even gone as far 63/64? IMHO any thing more tha

darren lurcher replied to fox caller's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i started bringing my pup out at 4 months getting her use to getting over walls threw gates watching the older dogs work within a month i had her looking down the beem i started by dropping a dead rabbit behind me turning around and slipping her about 20 feet from it it gave her grate confidence and when she turned 6 months i slipped her in a easy rabbit and to my delight she caught it -

jelious but happy for ya ha nice dog wish my pup caugh that many -
well put it this way i cant see the difference between lamping a hare or lamping a rabbit or a fox your out for the hunt and when it ya come across either its wat your out for ya take wat ya get. .i tell ya wat is a shame people shooting either 3 wrer is the sport shooting 10 rabbits in a field in 5 min or else walking a fue miles with a good dog that ya have trained from a pup and getting 3 or more rabbits thats the joy of lamping
