  1. indeed, i also shoot a .223 and love it, BUT its all about shot calculation. i once had a guy out with me on my shoot and he kept insisting that the shot he was about to take was a safe one, i asked him if i could look at the shot and was discusted by what i saw, charlie was sat on a bank with a town as the back stop needless to say, he has not come back since we had words
  2. Its not the amount of land its the layout of the land, I keeper 4200 acres the highest been 1000ft above sea lvl and the lowest is at sea lvl, we are cleared up to .270 but to be honest alot of the individual fields shouldn't even be cleared for .17 or .22rf its almost like having an open licence but not
  3. i'm pretty sure you have to apply for a specific calibre ie..... .222 .223 etc
  4. 1st job is to get the land checked then see what you can get
  5. I use 40gr Hornady rounds for my .223 much less kick therefor more accurate easily 1inch groups at 200 yrds
  6. Bloody hell they are catching people early these days, the poor guy hasn't even done it yet!
  7. Anyone else on here going? we go every year and love it :-D
  8. Zero an inch high at 100 yards and you will be flat shooting at 200 and 1-3 inches low (dependant on round) at 300 yrds
  9. it is not uncommon for pheasants to be gender confused, in all honesty we call them he/she's
  10. Your 'mate' should have known, and you should not have fired said shotgun without knowing the rules, the only bird that can be lamped LEGALY is the feral pigeon!! personally i wish you had missed and looked a 'twat' al least oyu would have been within the law~!
  11. Hi all i am keepering a shoot in North Wales and i need to increase my working dogs (currently working 2) so i am after a Spaniel pup and in exchange i am willing to offer a full gun on a 150 bird day with no overage in late November (best time imo but can do a date to suit you) i would prefer a dog but anything considered. Thanks James
  12. I believe that they are very short handed at the moment
  13. Sod going to college at the moment offer your services to a keeper over the summer he may be able to pay you a bit but even if he can't you will get invaluble experience. Main thing is get off the laptop and get out there.
  14. I agree with Jayhawk, it will be the mild weather. On our 4000 acre shoot we just blank in from the surrounding areas to make sure that they are in the drives
  15. All Joking aside basicaly mate you can't people just arn't interested anymore.
  16. Could also have been a dirty barrel, I myself shoot the .223 and find that a good cleaning is requires after around 10 shots (with 40 gr round which i love due to the lack of 'jump' that my light rifle gets from 55gr) give it a good clean if this is the case, put a round or 2 through it then re-check zero. with reagards to the selling of the goose meat i am torn because it stops people from killing them JUST for the money, but of course like you say they do need controlling when they become 'feral' ATB
  17. Geese whether vermin or not will ALWAYS come under Wildfowl and must always be treated as wildfowl ATB
  18. I suppose it comes down to what you use Paulus, i use the 40gr winchester subsonics. What are you using??
  19. I was talking to one of our picker uppers today who knows the shop that this happened to. But what i cant understand is how this happened?? surely the premises was was alarmed and the guns were 'chained'??
  20. The HRM id straight shooting, so point and shoot, but ammo is more expensive and you will always have a 'CRACK' as the round goes off. .22 are almost silent when moderated and using sub sonics, at £7ish per 50 rounds are cheap as chips but obviously has a bit more thinking as the round rises and falls I prefer the .22rf
  21. I zero at 60 yrds, just because this is the range that i find most bunnies present themselves. But i don't find it an issue to shoot them at 150 yrds with this zero. You should zero to what you expect to find them at as an average. ATB
  22. Without seeing it i would say that if it was removed, then it was unsuitable/inapropriet.......simples
  23. Nice Pics and looks like you are having some good sport on it, as a wildfowler i am not a fan of feeding, this to me is more like flighting ducks then wildfowling BUT each to there own. Just be careful that your farmer friends has the shooting rights ASWELL as the grazing rights as in most cases they are not leased together. ATB
