  1. Im not convinced about this, Iv had dogs with them on and off i even had one that had one! Dew claws have only ever caused one problem for me and that was after running hares on the moors in thick heather and over rocks, The sort of place that would cripple a sight hound. The dog was lame for a few days and fine after that. The dog in question was a wheaton X greyhound and co incidentally the dog with one dew claw. AFAIK dew claws were never removed from coursing whippets. I leave them on.

  4. First cross bedlington greyhound around the same age.
  5. I dont think its a beddy X due to its coat. Beddy coats take a while to develope
  6. Tis a good book, alot of lurcher books are just bab! I can read any of darcy's stuff
  7. I put the lamp on one night and saw a "fox" trotting down a footpath right in the open, I slipped my dog and he had gone no more than 20 yards when someone shouted oi thats my dog! and it was. A red terrier. Also done the usual crisp packets, coke cans and lapwings. Iv heard stories about shooting lads, one who actually shot a tractor thinking it was a fox And another who damn near shot a very expensive horse that was stood behind a drystone wall, thinking it was a fox sat on the wall.
  8. I would have snapped if that was me, one of us would have woken up in hospital. chemical castration for him and his family. scum
  9. Litter wastage? it sounds like a accidental mating!! Do you know/trust the breeder. accidents do happen.
  10. But does breeding lurcher to lurcher not increase the chances of undesirable qualities as well? With a first cross you know what your getting, for example you want the speed from the greyhound and the coat, brains, stamina and general ruggedness from the collie (wether you get them the right way round is a chance in its self) But imagine this You breed a beddy/whippet X collie /grey sire with a saluki/grey x bull greyhound bitch. How can you possibly guess what the outcome will be?
  11. That was not the question Would you breed two dogs of the same litter. It has to be no Thays not the question either catcher 1, it is: Would you breed from a dog that has never been tried? Foe example You breed a supereb litter out of two superb dogs you keep a bitch and run it on and your gran keeps a bitch that never sees nothing meanwhile your bitch is shit hot lamps rabbits, catches hares and does charlie single handed. But it gets knocked over and dies........ Would you breed off your grans fireside pet? when its never even seen a rabbit, because its a sibling of your wonder d
  12. Just to make it clear, i dont make these, i had them made by a carpenter mate of mine. i have two well made terrier boxes for sale both are used but in perfect condition, One is a single for the larger terrier. The other is a standard double. for more info/pictures PM me. Boxes are in West yorkshire £35 each or £60 for the pair. These are proper solid boxes, to fit in your boot. Cheers Dave
  13. Interesting stuff anymore takers?
  14. what is the best way to breed good lurchers? Iv seen it written that a good lurcher is an end product i.e a cross between a collie and a greyhound and when you want or need another lurcher, you breed another collie with a greyhound. But then Iv also spoken to someone who's opinion I value, who said first crosses produce too much litter wastage and lurcher to lurcher is the way to go. What do you think?
  15. It's nice you girls can chat on here, Its like a toddler group coffee morning all the time...................
  16. There we go, the flip side of the coin in the above few posts. They are fair points, well put. I think its fair to summerise that Some would some would'nt!!! My thoughts are ideally we should breed off sound, well proven dogs/bitches but if thats not possible it can be acceptable and a reasonable gamble to breed off a well proven blood line. Thanks for everyone input its been interesting seeing into the thought train of people on here
  17. I think we have gone miles off the original point. Its been interesting though gents
  18. Well define a working dog, Collies round up sheep thats their job greyhounds run round a track thats NOW their job. I ment hunting as in hunting up cover not just chasing
  19. she's bred from mineola farloe son of top honcho, her dam is also a mineola bred bitch very nice
  20. Is that not down to the owner rather than the dog? A collie cross don't say to its self "im not running that rabbit im really more of a racer than a hunter" the owner decides what use the dog is put to.
  21. But track dogs are trained to chase, i know its not hunting but do coursing dogs hunt in the traditional sense? Lots of people breed top lurchers from ex track dogs but how many breed from pet or show greyhounds that sit in front of a fire or woddle around in a f*****g silly tartan coat?
  22. Fencehopper hows the greyhound bred? have you had it from a pup?
  23. Type slower whin, its almost unreadable now
