  1. Takes a scot to talk sense ....bang on dotty! Sorry dotty but ye answers wrong,it dot ask do u prefer a pup to an adult it asks how much a decent lamper worth if ye had to put value on it? dont think theyr is a right an wrongt answer way is see it is all the half decent lamp dogs i have had, i have brought on from a puppy....... i have had a few adult dogs over the years that come to me fuly grown or even as a gangly sapling an to be frank i never bonded wae any of them, an they never ever seemed to do as good a job as a pup that was here since day dot, so to speak..
  2. As always mate, a very sensible post I will also add that I would have serious doubts about beddy type crosses taking big dog foxes in numbers, specially back end of January/Febuary?..... All breeds ,crosses have good fox dogs in them none more than others,I have caught plenty of fox over the years in my experience a good lurcher with some deerhound in can catch more than a bull x can catch as for killing foxes bulls r harder but they gotta catch them first.I'm not saying bull x can't catch fox coz I seen som good ones, just a lighter framed dog maybe catch more
  3. Has anyone seen the footage dog attack styles? Different guard dogs showing different styles of attack,do these different styles of attack come with different types of lurcher when they are hunting I wonder? Ie bull x using weight, alsation x using agility etc
  4. I personally would never keep a yapper unless it's a hound haha the only people with good excuses for running dogs which open up is the people who have got one
  5. Big problem tiredness while driving after lamping me an a couple of friends was coming home from hexam ways a few years back me mate fell asleep at the wheel,we crahed into central reservation doin eighty nobody was hurt,my lurcher came out the back, ended up running down motorway I had to run after it nearly got myself killed never mind me beloved dog. I'm sure some lads died on the thelwall viaduct after a nights lamping.they had lurchers in car.I used to stay out till it went light back then, going home while it was still dark was like ye dog jibbin haha if ye do travel far be careful,if ye

  7. Pre ban I used to travel all over the place to work my dogs just to get them the type of work they was bred for, nowadays I'm still having to go an hour In me car to guarantee a good few runs for the dogs,I still hunt locally to exercise them but to be honest it can be pointless, when ye have good dogs and ye want to see them graft ye find yeself having to travel sometimes. how far do you travel? How often?
  8. Average price for an average dog,if you look again ye will see people are prepared to pay a lot more, they be the people who know the true value of a proper good honest lamper, a dog someone has put a lot of time and effort into,if ye had to put value to it they are worth a lot more it's 2011 now ,things are dearer now than ten or twenty years ago two or three hundred don't go far, pups are that to buy now
  9. I've seen a well known saluki x coursing dog, kill foxes for fun, same dog took deer regular and loved a good nights lamping as much as being on the fens. I used to go doing the hay bales in Lincoln with terriers, bolting fox with terriers this dog was mustard.I used to do the fox earths on the dikes too I seen a few of the lads saluki x get foxes and deer.pre ban
  10. there is no better feeling when your home grown pups get there 1st rabbit and youu know things can only get better. I'd personally pay upto 250 for a pup, of good dogs ones that I'd seen work a few times,as for an adult dog if I really wanted it,and it was my type of dog then I'd go further so long as it passed every test I wanted, not the previous owners.
  11. When I was young I as out with a gun pack in llangollen north wales,I went over to the terrierman and asked about his dogs, when I asked him " what sort of dogs r they mate" he said"just mongrels innit" I at the time had a couple of russels.he then went on to explain to me they come from his and his friends best dogs over the years, and that they wer a mixture of breeds but all good grafters.that's when I learned grafter to grafter.
  12. Shazza don't worry we got them all decent homes,I couldn't sleep thinking about it,their all with good owners now so me an stoatarse can keep an eye on them I really look forward to see how each of them come on as I know all the owners,
  13. Were just working on that, don't want to be called dog thieves,by some piece of shit who shouldn't even be allowed to speak again.did think about robbing it off him,he a right c..t. I've got a hammer by the door anyway incase he turns up again t see how his pups r comin on
  14. I have had a mixture over the years, collie grey, whippet grey, bull grey.Etc.which I mean by straight cross don't care about percentages,I have also ran some lurcher to lurchers ie saluki bull gre, deerhound collie grey.Irish terrier bull grey, etc the latter coming from good dogs to good dogs ,our best to the best so to speak,I prefer straight crosses, leaning more towards the grey which do you prefer? Why?
  15. I hope bodger does well,I know the kid with the other one he's called it fritzl so when people ask why,he can tell them he named it after that c**t with the babies in the cellar haha he a good dog kid,he'll look after it he'll let people know it's wrong to breed lurchers for the hell of it,he shoulda been, well I'm not gonna say,we all know.
  16. I remember looking up to the older lads who wer getting out there, and listening to their stories while they sort of did look down on me.but I used to love bumping into them an we'd have a big bag of bunnies an a few hares haha they'd have feckall but a big bag of stories.they soon started knocking to go for a little walk with me dogs :tongue2:haha

  23. In my opinion dogmen don't half hold a grudge? Something they seen you do or heard someone say in the past,I just seem to let things go and hope the people involved learn from whatever u didn't like or see. All hunting people start somewhere, they have to learn, some never do,some do bad things on there way,but time and experience can put that right,do you hold grudges? Some of my good mates r the worst for it haha they always bring shit up about so an so when he did that or this haha sometimes it best t say ye bit then forget.
  24. How about catapults? Is it legal to try an knock ones head off with a catty Then retrieve with dog
