  1. But you are nit picking, without reading the whole thread properly. If you did you would not need to ask these questions I did not get my dogs for hunting reasons, never said i did. Had never intentionally killed a worm prior to my first terrier And as i said earlier, i like many other people have no problem with 'one for the pot poachers' But we are not even on about that.
  2. I agree...Never said any different, for me it is about the dogs but i managed to get pest control WITH DOGS to do, the people who had men with rifles sorting the rabbits, did not like guns on the property.....bingo There is a huge difference though between people like Crorider, myself and the many other people who got into it accidentally through dogs first, than the people we are actually talking about. People who get hunting dogs to go out hunting with from the off. Knowing they have no-where to go, knowing they will poach. This thread is getting silly now with every single word spoken be

  4. No, i did not, i got working dogs prior to getting land albeit accidentally. I just mooched about the place as many did, there was no hunting act then, and catching rabbits on common land was not frowned upon, i can hand on heart say i never deliberately poached anywhere, nor did i think anyone owed me land/quarry because i had dogs. I can also tell you exactly who controlled the rabbits here before me......NO-ONE The keeper nor the farmer had any desire or time. Another place i go to, it was men with air rifles, they went for a while then did not go back. Anything else anyone would like
  5. Dont understand a word of that South, If i do it mainly for the dogs why would i want a gun
  6. And i do with your points also. I have absolutely no problem with the 'one for the pot' (for want of a better description) people. Half the time you wont even know they have been there.....how it should be. They are not the people spoiling it as you know and as you rightly said....But its f****d anyhow. Not enough land or game. This country is dying a death when it comes to hunting. Hard to explain this, but to me the type of people who are spoiling it for every one else are not really into hunting for the hunting. They are the people 20yrs ago would have been joy riders (twoc'ing) getti
  7. Yes i can see your point regarding tradition/lurchers But i has gone wayyyyyyyy beyond that now, less land to hunt and a great many more people hunting, people do not hunt because they need the food any more, in fact most people do not hunt for any other reason than bragging rights So why do you hunt? For food, for pest control, but mainly for the dogs. But that has nothing at all to do with the above, you are trying to stretch tradition to it's furthest point here Not all tradition survives, or stays the same, there is always room for evolution within tradition. It's the ruinatio
  8. Hare coursing wasn't specifically banned though Moll, the single act of hunting any mammal with dogs was banned and hare coursing and fox hunting then became illegal as a by product. Even hunting rats and rabbits is just as illegal as hunting foxes and hares without complying with the conditions laid down in the act... I do think certain species were specifically banned for reasons though Malt...as i said, why the hare and not the rabbit (On permission)? What about mink and grey squirrels though? Both are harmful invasive species now legally off limits too, they just don't gain the
  9. I thought there have been a few silly posts on this thread but this one takes the biscuit  In your little world have you never seen or heard any of the above So any kid getting into the game shouldnt bother because he has nowhere to go? the future will be grim for our sport if all kids threw the towel in for this reason So hare coursing was banned because it was attracting the wrong sort of participants? .............. Why was fox hunting banned then? The point I was trying to make was that not all people who stray across boundrys are idiots Is it just me or d

I dont hunt for bragging rights, I dont hunt purely for pest control, I enjoy working my dogs for no other reason at all. Its only been 7 years since the ban and people

  14. But why hares Scot....why not rabbits? It was very apparent from the start hares would get banned, because with hare coursing came money, and when money is involved .............. Fortunately there has never been big money made coursing bunnie rabbits (Up to now)

  16. Why do people get working dogs if there is no where to work them. You wouldn't buy a lawnmower if you didn't have a garden! Leveller, i understand where you are coming from, in fact it is quite easy to understand. I think some people just like to split hairs for the sake of arguing Why do people think hare coursing was banned? Was it because they are an endangered species....No Was it because to chase a hare causes it more emotional fear that is does to chase a rabbit...No. Was it because they look cuter than a rabbit....Def not Could it be because of the types of people to
  17. I think you have misunderstood the lads enthusiasm Lurch, The enthusiasm is for the dog not the killing/hunting He just loves this dog to bits and wants to do right by him. Personally i cannot see the point in him getting another dog just yet, he doesn't even properly know what hunting is and all it entails. He has just been mooching in nice fine weather with his little dog up to now. I'd say let him learn with this little dog, which i think might be all he needs in a dog and more from the sound of him
  18. He doesn't think like that though lurcher1, i thought i made that clear in my last post? It is his first dog and will do no wrong, just how it should be. The same as it was for all of us before computers and 'experts' telling us how it should be done
  19. I don't think we always give our dogs enough credit. My lot will not touch poultry, even before i had any of my own...NO means no! But i have wondered if it may just be situational rather than species. Pheasant/partrige have always been fair game here at home and when ratting on the shoot But recently when ratting at a chicken farm, even when other dogs were killing the stray chickens, my lot never once even looked like they wanted too. The pride i felt that my dogs were well behaved was immeasurable. Even more so than watching Rudie straight line a flying partridge
  20. Crorider is a young man with his first dog. His dog has shown an interest in hunting and Cro want's to give the dog every opportunity/chance he can. It matters not if the dog is excellent or crap, but it is to be given the opportunity to find out, and will be worked to some extent to the level it can achieve. A lucky little dog finding an owner like Crorider
